The issues it has with televisions doesn't bother me too much, honestly. I use it as a handheld exclusively. These days I prefer handhelds to home consoles.
It's not terrible. Just more that $100 is a much more appropriate price for what's in the box. The replica stick in particular struck me as poor - if I'd payed $50 for an extra one, I'd feel very ripped off. Then again, I've never had hands-on with a AES, so maybe that's what they're actually like.
Most complaints with the handheld itself could probably be fixed in software. Except the crummy LCD (and questionable decision to not use a 4:3 one). The 3DS's lower screen is 320x240, would have been almost perfect.
