The issues it has with televisions doesn't bother me too much, honestly. I use it as a handheld exclusively. These days I prefer handhelds to home consoles.
I've only used it handheld as well. Boxed everything else back up, just using it with a spare cell phone USB charger. It's sitting on my nightstand with my 3DS XL, Vita, and PSP-3000.

It's not terrible. Just more that $100 is a much more appropriate price for what's in the box. The replica stick in particular struck me as poor - if I'd payed $50 for an extra one, I'd feel very ripped off. Then again, I've never had hands-on with a AES, so maybe that's what they're actually like.

Most complaints with the handheld itself could probably be fixed in software. Except the crummy LCD (and questionable decision to not use a 4:3 one). The 3DS's lower screen is 320x240, would have been almost perfect.

So I tried out the 3DS for a little while now. So far not too impressed by the 3D. I mean it looks neat, don't get me wrong, but during cutscene's and actual gameplay it's more of a distraction than anything and I've opted to keep it turned off. Though it does look really cool during menu's.

Also, I've never heard anyone else mention this, but why are the face buttons all switched around? A is on the right, B on the bottom, X at the top, and Y at the left. It wouldn't be bad if B did all the functions that A use to, but it doesn't. And it feel's really awkward pressing the button on the right to confirm things.

Dreamcast. It's usually, always... a Dreamcast.

Nope, nothing switched around. That has been Nintendo's layout since the SNES/Super Famicom controller. You're probably thinking of the 360 layout which came from the Xbox layout which came from the Dreamcast layout which is the Saturn/Gensis/Mega Drive 6 button layout... just with the Z and C buttons chopped off.

And if I'm not mistaken, A (or O on the Playstation controller) has always been the "confirm" button in Japan. It was B (or X on the Playstation controller) in the West, but games slowly migrated to a worldwide "A to confirm" on Nintendo consoles. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems to be the way it is in the West today.

On topic: The last console I picked up was my 3DS XL in October of last year.

Congrats on the new PC!

If Nintendo gets the Wii U price a little lower this summer I may pick one up.

Yeah, I've heard the thing about O/A being confirm in Japan.

But I honestly never knew about the button layout on Nintendo consoles being like that. Honestly I've never held an NES or SNES controller before (Nor looked too closely at pictures to tell), but just sorta assumed they had it like everyone else does. Also the Gamecube had the big A in the middle, so although that's a different layout it still felt like A was right there and easy to press.

Thanks for clearing that up.

If I wasn't unemployed, I'd have picked one up when they started doing the mega bundle where they include both Nintendo Land and ZombiU. Oh well.

EvilRyu, if you have a new PC, I highly recommend downloading QQ Player. It's a free video player like VLC that gives you the option of watching videos in red/blue anaglyph 3D (good for stuff like Avatar and The Lorax that was designed to be viewed in 3D) and has a video format converter built in. Of course, you should probably download VLC too 'cause there's some stuff that QQ won't play that VLC will and vice versa.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.
