Ultimately if you have a good item and a good price - it will sell, no matter if you unwittingly turn away a mystery unknown buyer.

As for grey area on ethics - dunno, same idea. If someone is naive enough to think there isn't markup to make selling an item worthwhile, to cover costs involved and to make up for times they overpaid, i'm not going to lose sleep over it. For every $100 snes cart you pick up for $50 and can then sell for $100, you buy a 360 game for $60 and sell it for $10.

You don't try and sell that now $10 360 game for $60, and tell people, "I paid $60." Of course not - it's worth $10 now, just like you wouldn't try to sell that $50 SNES cart for $50 when it's worth $100. What you paid is irrelevant in both scenarios. An item is worth what someone else will pay for it - some folks try to make it more complicated than that.

Disclosing what you and hobie paid is a personal choice. I don't know what the fear would be in disclosing. You either did meh, ok, good, or amazing. It really doesn't affect anything beyond the opinion of how truly good the find was.

Some interesting stats I can share... so far, between RB and NA, we have fielded about 150 unique inquiries with 105 packages shipped.

Things to consider. How many people bitch on here about Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other thrift stores despite the fact those are charity cases? People post fairly often going "OMG they get that stuff for free, why are they charging ebay prices now? I used to be able to get a deal!"

How many of you would be annoyed in the following situations:

● A one weekend table minder at a flea market tells you that they had 'a bunch of games for $1 each' but that some guy cleaned them out first thing this morning. You find out that it's an established reseller that does this every time and puts them in their stall for ebay or higher prices where games sit for months and months. Or maybe you recognized the person as someone who puts games on Craigslist for ridiculous prices.

● You stop at a garage sale just in time for someone else who doesn't really look like a gamer of any kind grabbing a big box of games marked $20. After they pay, they notice you eying the box and offer to sell you individual games for $20 or more each, not 1 minute after they just paid for them. Maybe you even see a picture of the same box of games later that day on Craigslist.

● You sell something on the forum at a forum friendly price, but the item shows up a month or two later in that person's sale thread for double or more despite not being a big traffic item or having gone up in value.

I've experienced the 1st and 3rd and I know others that have too. I'm not saying people shouldn't profit. JMustang and I have from our purchase even after accounting for the huge amount of time. I imagine many here wouldn't have had the cash to float the purchase. Heck, that's why we both went in on it together. But there's a nice way to announce your deals and a not nice way. If you're keeping a majority of what your scored, sure tell everyone. If you're flipping most of it, just say 'a nice price' and don't be a dick about it.

For me personally, I don't post finds of stuff I plan to resell; I just feel weird for some reason.

The salvation army near me started putting games behind the glass counter since there's been a big problem of people stealing discs.

It also invites excess haggling. 'Cmon you only paid $5 for it, you are still making a profit at $20 instead of $30' etc..

Has this actually happened to you? I've never seen it in my experiences.

this has totally happened to me, in person and on this forum. sold something to a buddy from facebook after i picked up a good deal on craigslist, he recognized the game from the listing and told me since he knew what i paid for it, he wasn't going to pay more than x amount. that was out of my control, but, yeah. it happens. it is childish, but it happens.

Right now Gamestop Has a B2G1 free on PS2 games. So I finally got the copy of Eternal Poison PS2 Discs only and Disc only copies of Crash Twinsantiy and Call Of Duty Finest Hour.

I'm gonna go stick them in my PS2 HDD.

Not sure if it was rhetorical or not, but I'll answer anyways

Well, I might be jealous that the reseller found a good deal, and maybe even a bit annoyed at myself for not beating him to the punch. If the games sit on his shelf for a few months and then sell, then how can I blame him? If he keeps them and they don't sell, then he owns them and isn't playing them, something that would apply to a vast majority of most people's collection. I'm not going to get annoyed at every copy of a game that I want that might be sitting somewhere unappreciated.

Okay, judging whether someone is a gamer or not by their looks is a new level of elitism

That aside, if he purchased them, he owns them. If he offers to sell them to me at $20 a piece, and there is a game in the bunch that I would consider a good buy at $20, I would still buy it. Again, this seems like a situation of jealousy. I've bought a box of games on the cheap here and there that may have only contained one or two games I needed, and I resold the rest. I see nothing wrong with that. So I'm in the same boat as the guy that beat me to the punch, he just might be spending the cash he makes from the deal on a different hobby.

I'd lol, and watch it not sell. Would not bother me one bit, people can do whatever they like with their belongings. Now, if it sold, I might be a little annoyed that I missed out on some dough, but that annoyance wouldn't be aimed at the person re-selling the stuff.


All that said, I do not think there is anything wrong with not sharing what you pay for a game you plan on reselling if you don't want to. I can totally understand doing this, since it does seem like enough people have a problem with sharing the prices that you might indeed lose a sale. I do, however, think it is wrong to put someone on blast if they do want to show their good deal here, regardless of what they may do with the game afterwards.
