that would be ideal but it is rarely the case, in my experience.

it feels like a situation where some people think that "finds" are for collectors only, and people who simply intend to profit on their pick-ups should stay away from bragging about theirs if they are only going to try and create a profit for themselves.

this argument really is fucking stupid now that i'm re-reading everything. this is why i don't post finds anymore.

I think posting what you paid for an item on this thread and then selling the same item on this site is just bad form

That just makes zero sense to me.

If someone wants to sell me Xenoblade for $70, and I think its a good deal, I don't care whether they paid $50, $70, or even $1. It doesn't change anything, unless I want to sob over the fact that someone scored a deal.

On the same hand, if someone wants to charge $100 for it, and I don't consider that a fair price, their price paid yet again has no effect. They may have paid $120, they may have picked it up at GS for $60, they may have paid $1. Still doesn't matter.

It isn't a huge deal for me either way, but to some it is. Therefore I try to be more careful with good form in that regard as to not drive away potential buyers.

It also invites excess haggling. 'Cmon you only paid $5 for it, you are still making a profit at $20 instead of $30' etc..

Man, some people are so strange

If I'm happy with a price, thats it. If I want to haggle a price, I'll do so whether you give me a price paid or not, and you would never lose a sale from me based on what you paid for the item in question.

I guess I am just not meant to understand this. It seems very childish to me.

And no one should ever be put "on blast" for trying to sell something, whether they just bought it for less or not. Pretty sure that is against the forum rules. If you don't want it, move on, don't be a baby because you can't get what you want at the price you want.

Simple...
As opposed to:

Don't post finds
Put up finds for sale for eBay prices
Get ignored

I don't understand how someone's paid price would affect whether you buy an item or not, unless you are just jealous. Its either worth the asking price, or not worth the asking price, and what the buyer paid should mean nothing.
Don't really get the 'ass opposed to' part.

Let me make this simpler...

Put up finds for sale for eBay prices.
Get ignored.

Indeed it doesn't matter how much the seller bought it for. I would be a hypocrite if I said otherwise. Doesn't even matter if the seller got it for free. More power to him / her in that case. But selling for eBay prices on here is just begging to be ignored...

The trick is to sell for a price that gives the seller enough profit to be happy with the sales, and low enough that the buyer is happy he got it for a good price. A seller that can put a smile on a buyer's face and make him feel like he got a good deal is a good seller...

I don't understand - how would you even know you turned away a potential buyer? If "bad form" (whatever that is to you) turned away a buyer, you wouldn't know about it anyways - that whole idea is speculative.

Has this actually happened to you? I've never seen it in my experiences.

What is and what isn't good form as we can see is debatable. What isn't debatable is that we can't determine a "good find" unless a price is known or at least an interesting story. Posting a find without a compelling story and/or price is pointless. Again - put it in your gameroom.

You wrote:

Which, to me, implied that "Post finds with prices" was part of the reason they were getting ignored. So, I said "As [Not ass] opposed to them NOT posting prices, in which they will still get ignored. My point being that the price paid does not matter.

It seems that you got it anyways though

To the 1st, we have people in here posting that exact sentiment, so yes it could potentially turn off a buyer. While it wouldn't matter to some like you it does to others.

For the 2nd, yes I have experienced this.

I have not posted several good finds because I knew I was just going to flip it. Most of the finds I do post, I keep a good chunk.

It personally doesn't matter much to me, I can see both sides, but I am a laid back type of guy. While we should get some profit to cover our time and effort there seems to be a grey area of ethics involved. So out of respect for those who are more sensitive to the issue that's how I try to operate.

I wouldve disclosed how much we paid on our mega lot since I kept a decent chunk. However, Hobie was very much opposed to sharing.
