Oh right, the old guy probably doesn't tell people how much of a markup there is.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
what about selling items at their current market value if you get them for lower? if i pick something up and sell it to someone else at current market value and don't cut them a deal, am i an asshole? not trying to be confrontational, genuinely curious as to what everyone thinks about it.CamaroCam wrote: Markup is also pretty key here. Selling off doubles to fund your collecting habits is different than being an asshole and marking them up to higher than market value.
any onyx, honestly, you can do better than that response. hobie does have a point about you posting your finds then immediately flipping them. it's just tacky business. nothing wrong with flipping stuff, but keep the price paid under wraps.

In my opinion:aaron wrote:what about selling items at their current market value if you get them for lower? if i pick something up and sell it to someone else at current market value and don't cut them a deal, am i an asshole? not trying to be confrontational, genuinely curious as to what everyone thinks about it.
Selling AT market value is fine. But selling ABOVE market value, that's when you've hit asshole level. It's like this one game store I sometimes visit (when I'm in the area), where they make sure every single game in their freaking store is at least 1.5x market value. I realize they need to make money, but damn, that's so lame.
That's different than finding a game cheap and selling it at market value to make extra cash. I do that occasionally to help pay for games that I actually want for my collection (I'm a poor college student.)

Received in the post these 2 fine games from the big Jmustang & Hobie lot. Only took 2 weeks from Texas, USA to Brisbane Australia which is as fast as you could dare hope really. Definately wasn't expecting it so soon so a nice suprise for me...

Winter Olympics was a total impulse buy to complete this:

which was a find from a while back that I can't remember if I listed here, $5.00 from a pawn shop but missing Winter Olympics. Oddly enough, it came with two instruction manuals for Robocop Vs. Terminator. So maybe its not technically complete yet.

Very nice! Was wondering why you handpicked that game out of the others to send to Australia and now I know!god wrote:Received in the post these 2 fine games from the big Jmustang & Hobie lot. that's fair. i don't think anybody can fault you for that.Onyxthecat wrote:Yo guy are right, im just used to having to be honest even to my own detriment.
plus, looking over your stuff again, i don't think you list things at an insane markup or anything. it's just hard to pay full market value for something from someone when they list the price paid from the outset (and it's a steal).
basically, post your finds, because everyone likes "pickup porn." but if you intend to sell, probably not best to post the price paid.

That's usually my approach. However, I usually get numerous requests to reveal price paid anyway...aaron wrote:that's fair. i don't think anybody can fault you for that.Onyxthecat wrote:Yo guy are right, im just used to having to be honest even to my own detriment.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
i can agree with that. the current market value fluctuates depending on the venue, though. it's a bit of a fool's errand to try and sell someone something here at ebay/amazon prices. but i'm of the opinion that if you are trying to get paid, then by all means do what you can to maximize your return. just don't be a shifty dick about it and actively try and rip people off.CamaroCam wrote:In my opinion:aaron wrote:what about selling items at their current market value if you get them for lower? if i pick something up and sell it to someone else at current market value and don't cut them a deal, am i an asshole? not trying to be confrontational, genuinely curious as to what everyone thinks about it.

yeah, everyone always wants to know. it's part of the allure of the "finds" thread. it's like hearing about someone who won the lottery ("it could have been me") or something.Jmustang1968 wrote:That's usually my approach. However, I usually get numerous requests to reveal price paid anyway...
but, yeah, if you're gonna sell, no harm in hiding your price paid, i don't think. posting finds essentially becomes less about bragging and more about advertising at that point, which i don't think is any better or worse.
