Arcade Sticks for PS3

I just bought a pair of Hori minis, please don't tell me these are bad?

I wish I knew that most usb sticks work or else I would of bought NeoGeoX ones.
All in all I should be ok with what I have coming, since it's more for casual bouts with my wife when shes mad at me.

Word is you'll wanna splurge for something with Sanwa brand parts, as opposed to proprietary parts as the latter are quite shoddy. There's a noticeable difference, I bought the standard Hori cheapo stick, and then I won a Fightstick Pro from Madcatz, and the buttons are more responsive. Also the heavy base helps a lot. Apparently the cheapo ones break rather quickly too.

A good place to find a good stick, like a Madcatz Fightstick Pro for relatively cheap is during streams of major fighting game tournaments. Madcatz usually has special promotions, and they'll give out a code to get a real good stick for less than $100.

I'll be watching tourneys this weekend and next weekend, if I come across a good promotional code I'll post it here.

I've got a few, but i'm probably most satisfied with my Mayflash stick.

I picked it up at a shop for under $30 used, and it was fairly easy to convert to Sanwa parts (a bit of grinding and soldering, but it took less than an hour). It doesn't have the weight or aesthetic appeal of a Hori Real Arcade Pro but it allegedly works with a PS2 system (not the backwards compatible PS3) and its a lot cheaper to mod it than buy a HRAP.

Mine didn't work on a PS2 slim (the only time I tried the PS2 functionality), it was used though.

You may want to check out a tighter joystick if you're into Shmups, some people tend to favor them more. Some of the Seimitsu ones may be more up your alley than the Sanwa's.


Also, I can't recommend ZenErik enough for used sticks. I bought three from him a short while back. Great prices and great items, you can't go wrong!
