Nintendo Direct just announced that Earthbound is hitting the WiiU VC in north america and EU territories. This is great, it deserves to be played.
Will this spell the end of those ridiculous $500+ pricetags for physical copies of the game? Radiant Silvergun's release on XBLA brought prices down from $200+ to a more respectable ~$100 range.
Earthbound comes to the VC - end of ridiculous prices?

It's really hard to say, with SNES in general being really hot right now and how seemingly random the effect of digital releases have been on other games in the past.
I predict a lot of people dumping off the carts they're sitting on by the time a proper release date is announced though.

Fantastic news! I really hope the price drops, it's a game everyone deserves to experience. One of my favorites.
Re: Earthbound comes to the VC - end of ridiculous prices?
I have a boxed copy of Earthbound from back in the day - kinda beat up but still probably valuable. I should be more upset that it'll potentially devalue, but I really don't care - I'd likely never sell it by itself, but only as a bundle with my entire collection (or at least my entire SNES collection) - something I'm not likely to do for a long time.
Earthbound has become the epitome of outrageous demand, though. It might be because I was never particularly taken by the game - I enjoyed it a lot, but it's not the best game of all time or anything (I prefer many other SNES games over it, and even in its own series I prefer Mother 3). Certain people, however, have taken to the game like it's the second coming. I love that people will be able to enjoy this game, however, because it deserves to be played. I just hope the price comes down so I can replace my beat up box lol. I refuse to pay $500 for what is basically a box and guide, but $100-$150 would be more reasonable to me.

I think the price will be down, but it will still be far more than most people would be willing to pay for a single game.

Really surprising news.
That said, the fact that they waited for WiiU's VC and skipped the Wii VC just reminds me what a-holes Ninty can be.

I certainly don't expect to see it become like a $50 cart or something like that, but heck I'd be happy to see it hover back down around the $100-$140 range. It's around $200 right now just for a cart.MrPopo wrote:I think the price will be down, but it will still be far more than most people would be willing to pay for a single game.
Re: Earthbound comes to the VC - end of ridiculous prices?
Ha, yeah I'm not expecting it to fall to $50 or anything. I'm just more curious about if it'll get back into that reasonable range. I think $200 is about the extreme limit most people have when it comes to buying sought-after games. Earthbound goes for well, well above that.MrPopo wrote:I think the price will be down, but it will still be far more than most people would be willing to pay for a single game.
Speaking of boxed prices, of course. Not loose cart.
EDIT: ^^Haha freaky, out comments are so similar

There's no reason to support a dead system.noiseredux wrote:That said, the fact that they waited for WiiU's VC and skipped the Wii VC just reminds me what a-holes Ninty can be.
