Games that are fun to watch, but not play.

Metal Gear Solid 2, because I watched my hallmate play it on my roommate's PS2 during my freshman year of college. It was strangely interesting to watch him play it, but I had no real interest actually playing the game itself. I still don't care to play the MGS games at all, but I wouldn't have a problem watching someone else play them.

From what I know and have seen of MGS2, your roommate was watching more than playing as well, despite being in control of the main character.

RE- MGS2:
I remember a few months after it was released my friends and I were hanging out in my room kinda half-watching my friend play through it and just chatting and messing around on the internet while passing around a pinner. Since the conversation was mostly more interesting than the game, I decided to turn on a sound recorder. Kinda cool and nostalgic to listen to it now. When a cutscene started the conversation died down and when it was over the conversation picked up where it left off. Highlights include "The New-York Riots - how much fun were they?", "I Need Scissors Sixty-One" and "Honeycomb Dick Syndrome" interspersed with Tom Leykis clips and comments. The game definitely didn't have everyone glued to the TV, tho it was certainly entertaining to watch. I've never gotten past the 2nd mission or so, and will never play MGS3.

MGS2 isn't anywhere near as bad on that front as MGS4. Not sure how fun MGS4 is to watch either though...

'course I actually think the gameplay in MGS is pretty fun on its own anyway.

Complex combo fighting games. Extra points for flashy combo attacks.

L.A. Noire: Fascinating story, but relatively boring gameplay.

Uncharted. Way too scripted for me, the shooting mechanics in all of them don't feel that great (controls or the feel of everything is just too loose or something?), and yeah I just don't like games that play themselves more than half the time. Honestly games like this only feel less immersive to me and more fake than anything else. It's a forced experience the devs want you to have, rather than subtly taking anything in for yourself. I think it took me a few weeks to beat Uncharted 2, since I could only jump in for 30 minutes at a time or something before I got pretty bored.

But when these games came out I really enjoyed watching my friend marathon them and finish them in a single day pretty much, so it's definitely a weird love/hate relationship. So movie games... I'll just watch them? Uh... lol.

Heavy Rain was another, I tried the demo and it was just hilarious for me to try and play it... but again some of my friends got together and I just watched a buddy go through the whole thing and it was awesome.

I hate myself for saying this but basically any Sonic game . I always end up speeding through levels so fast that I don't really get to enjoy the visuals so I usually prefer to watch other people play it.

My exact thoughts on the new Tomb Raider game and Resident Evil 6. Both constantly interrupt gameplay for "interactive" cutscenes, I found myself constantly wondering why I couldn't be playing those scenes myself. It's one trend that needs to die, that's for sure.

Anyhow, totally forgot about this thread, but it seems a lot of the responses are either about bad games or games with high execution barriers (SHMUPS, fighters, etcetera).

I love MGS4, it's my fave in the series.
