Suggest-A-Game Thread
Looking for a type of game that you just can't find? There are video games tailor made for every taste out there, but sometimes they're difficult to find without a helping hand...
Maybe you're a King of Fighters fanatic who's looking for another 2D fighting game with the same amount of depth and variety.
Maybe you're a big fan of Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga looking for another shmup with puzzle game elements.
Maybe you adored Earthbound's sense of humor in an RPG and want a similar experience elsewhere.
Maybe LSD: The Dream Simulator changed the way you look at games and you're on the lookout for another interactive trip-simulator.
Maybe you're looking for a game like E.V.O.: Search for Eden on the Super Nintendo and no one's told you about Lack of Love on the Dreamcast yet.
Maybe you loved Ecco the Dolphin, but wish you could explore more placid waters.
Maybe you want a horror title with the maturity of Silent Hill and its sequel.
Maybe you love the maze-puzzling of Pac-Man, but haven't played Spatter.
Or maybe you just want a puzzle game that stars a monkey. Is that so much to ask? JUST A PUZZLE GAME THAT STARS A MONKEY, PLEASE.
Maybe your friends at Racketboy can help you to find that game that you're looking for.
That said, could anybody suggest me some really off-kilter pet simulators? Seaman and Ganbare Neo Poke-Kun are absolute favorites of mine, and I even turn on Roommania #203 every once in awhile to see if my Japanese has gotten good enough. It just always seemed to me that the "Take care of this pet that you can't have in real life" idea was really under-utilized.

played Tiny Computer People? Might be fun to look back toward the origin of the genre?Original_Name wrote: That said, could anybody suggest me some really off-kilter pet simulators? Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that and thinking it was one of the coolest things I'd ever heard of (especially for the time), but never actually got around to playing it. Thanks for the reminder!noiseredux wrote:played Tiny Computer People? I mostly wanted to start a thread like this 'cause I felt like it'd help a lot of folks in the community discover games they wouldn't have encountered otherwise -- even if they hadn't personally asked. But yeah, I'll spend some time with Tiny Computer People -- that'll be a cool throwback.
EDIT: Oh, and from searching, I remembered that it's "Little Computer People" for anyone else interested in trying it out. Thanx again, Noise!

Re: Suggest-A-Game Thread
Great idea for a thread.
I love cartoony, detailed 2D graphics with vibrant colors and sprites with smooth animation. Game's that are beyond your usual good looking 16-bit game (DKC, Ristar, Comix Zone, Sonic etc). Most modern 2D games have the problem that they either use too simplistic look for the "retro vibe" or 2.5D/polygons. I like handrawn look. Late 1990s SNK and Capcom fighters looked awesome.
So, could I have some recommendations for the following genres, keeping in mind that the games need to have that "cartoon look" I love so much.
Adventure: Curse of Monkey Island. I like Monkey Island 1&2, Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max Hit the Road a lot but they're a bit too old to have the same kind of look as Monkey Island 3.
I'm aware of King's Quest 7, Vampyre Story, Buster and the beanstalk, Discworld and Leisure Suit Larry 7 (barely meets the criteria).
Beat em up: Dungeons&Dragons collection
I'm aware of Pu-Li-Ru-La, Guardian Heroes, Three Dirty Dwarves, Comix zone
Platformer: Rayman Origins. The original was quite neat too, and I guess it's more reasonable to expect games like that as retro games can't really compete with the HD graphics of RO and there aren't much modern games with that kind of 2D artwork.
SHMUP: Agony&Kolibri (I like the nature theme over the usual look of space shooters)

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete on the PS1. Despite the seriousness of the main plot, there's a ton of humor in those games and it's all genuinely funny too. To really get the most out of it, you need to talk to every NPC you come across because they have some of the game's best lines.Original_Name wrote:Maybe you adored Earthbound's sense of humor in an RPG and want a similar experience elsewhere.

Re: Suggest-A-Game Thread
here are some nice DS puzzle games. Kinda different, maybe forgotten(not really)
Zoo Keeper. (theres your monkey quota
)

touch an animal and switch it with the next one. Get three or more together and chain them to make them dissapear. Its one of the first DS games I ever got.
I do believe that theres a free android app for another version of this game too.
Puchi Puchi Virus
Starts out easy but gets damn hard toward the end. You need good eyes and reflexes.
You're a doctor and make similar colored triangles and chain the colors to make colored blobs dissapear. Theres some funny(?) puns on your patients names.

I own both of them.

I always thought that Exit DS was a neat kinda off-beat puzzler.

Haha, glad to see some people taking interest in the thread, although my examples were just that!
Anybody with an interest in one of those can feel free to ask, though!
As far as puzzlers featuring a monkey, I had this one in mind!:

Oh yeah, I bet -- with a Working Designs translation, you can always bank on some crazy dialog! I think that Rent A Hero, East of Eden IV, and Segagaga qualify for that zany RPG writing spot as well, although none of them had the privilege of an English translation.Retrodude wrote:Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete on the PS1. I absolutely love I-Ninja. In terms of gameplay, humor, music, etc, it seems like a spiritual successor to the original Spyro The Dragon trilogy. Are there any more games like that out there?
