Jason Rohrer, the man behind Passage, Sleep Is Death, Inside a Star-Filled Sky, and others, created Chain World. Story is a bit long, but wholly worth the read.

Only One Copy Of This Game Exists
Re: Only One Copy Of This Game Exists
My room mate was telling me about this. It's an amazing concept, but I'm not quite sure how it'll be executed. My first thought with the single flash drive passed from person to person was that it would turn into the Ring, and everyone who played it would die in real life.

heh, wholly. Its funny because it is unintentionally punny..or is it? Great read though, I would like for the game to be released for download. I might even be open to shelling out a few bucks just to see it.
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

Roher did it again. This year at GDC he created a game that would not be played for 2000 years and would explain the world to our new alien overlords.

More likely, however, is that it simply will never be played periodfastbilly1 wrote:Roher did it again. This year at GDC he created a game that would not be played for 2000 years and would explain the world to our new alien overlords.

Well yes, that is a possibility. But the belief on it is that if it is found in a dig in the future, it could explain life at this time. Is it a lofty belief, yes, but so was Chainworld.

Sorry, just a bit of my cynicism about the future of our planet peeking through in my last post. I won't get into geopolitical debates in a topic about experimental performance art/gaming. It's a fascinating concept, though.fastbilly1 wrote:Well yes, that is a possibility. But the belief on it is that if it is found in a dig in the future, it could explain life at this time. I would call that "the most artsy-fartsy bullshit I've seen in a long time", but then, I generally dislike the whole "games are art"-scene because they keep missing the point of actual games, and this one misses it on an astronomical scale.fastbilly1 wrote:Roher did it again. Chainworld is just a modified version of Minecraft and nobody knows whether he actually created any game here, not to mention whether it's any good or not. To me, it seems like he's not creating any games, but concepts that happen to revolve around games and he certainly shouldn't be credited as a "game designer" for doing that.
The idea is surely interesting, but to call something like this game design sounds to my ears very insulting against every actual designer who works hard to polish their games, takes it around the block, tweaks the rules and gameplay to perfection and then gets it published.

You and I have very different definitions of "The point of actual games", my friend.Ghegs wrote:I would call that "the most artsy-fartsy bullshit I've seen in a long time", but then, I generally dislike the whole "games are art"-scene because they keep missing the point of actual games, and this one misses it on an astronomical scale.
