Pretty self-explanatory, just want to know that, without being able to have scan lines like if it was used on an older TV, what are the best outputs for a HD TV for PAL PS1, PAL PS2, PAL NGC & PAL Wii? (You may include modding methods for output as well).
For example, the PS1, I've heard, uses SCART for best image output. And I've heard the PS2 can use GS Loader for forcing into higher image quality (which also works for backwards compatible PS1 games) but what output for the PS2 do I use from there? And I know the Wii can use a HDMI upscaler attachment.
I'd also like to note that the TV I'm using doesn't have S-Video input.

Oh, and for reference the outputs I'm currently using are composite.

Re: Best Output for PAL PS1, PS2, Wii & GameCube for a HDTV
PS1 and PS2 support RGB worldwide.
NGC and Wii only have official RGB on PAL hardware.
Component can be better than RGB at times.
It allows 480p on compatible PS2, Gamecube, or Wii games.*
But most PAL version games for NGC and the Wii Virtual Console removed 480p.
Exploring options to play NTSC games will help you further.
*In technical terms NGC does not generate or output analog component video.
That now-very-expensive cable performs a conversion.

So which would be better in the long run, component or RGB? Although how do I explore options to play NTSC games (and with something like Virtual Console)?theclaw wrote:PS1 and PS2 support RGB worldwide.

Re: Best Output for PAL PS1, PS2, Wii & GameCube for a HDTV
Component for PS2 and Wii.
It's a bit pointless on PAL Gamecube without 480p games.
Well I don't know if there's any way to change Wii shop region back and forth without losing purchases from the switch. Closest thing to legal that sounds feasible.

I've heard S-Video is really good for GameCube but my TV doesn't have that, so I wonder if there's a S-Video to HDMI adapter.theclaw wrote:Component for PS2 and Wii.

That won't work. PAL Gamecube lacks s-video.

Just use the best connection that each console is capable of. The Gamecube has a component cable option, but the exclusive Nintendo GC component cable is expensive so the next step down would be SVideo. As for adapting SVideo to HDMI, there is also a SVideo to Component option as well. The trick is if the upscaler box would give a decent pic or even work, depending on your HDTV input resolution scaling capabilities. Keep in mind you will not improve the picture quality other then making it work, when the source is a lesser connection such as SVideo or Composite. For example the Wii can output Component, SVideo adapted to HDMI will not get 480p.BitFaced wrote:I've heard S-Video is really good for GameCube but my TV doesn't have that, so I wonder if there's a S-Video to HDMI adapter.theclaw wrote:Component for PS2 and Wii.

Please post the make and model number of your HDTV
In addition what various inputs are on the back? I am guessing since it is a HDTV there are RF, Composite, Component, HDMI and maybe VGA and DVI? Is there also RGB and SCART connections? No point in going the console SCART option if there is no SCART input.
If is not a CRT, test an inexpensive connection first. Maybe try a component cable which can be found on the cheap with the PS2. Test run a few PS2 games that have the 480p option. If you try Gran Turismo or Tourist Trophy, these two games can go up to 1080i. Once you see the results, then you can decide on investing in modding and or obtaining expensive cables for your other consoles.
