Rick, Glenn, and Michonne are captured by the governor. He chops off Rick's hand, causing Michonne to furiously attack the governor, which leads to...
The infamous torture sequences where the governor brutally beats and rapes Michonne repeatedly, while Glenn is in the next room over listening every day that this goes on. She later gets her revenge and does a lot more damage to the governor than just the eye we saw him lose on the TV show
Tyreese is eventually captured by the governor. The governor sloppily, brutally chops off his head after repeated swings with an axe, while Rick's group is watching helplessly at the prison. Given Tyreese's role in the comic, this would have been the equivalent of Daryl getting killed.
Lori is shot by the governor's people as they invade the prison. The shot also hits her baby, killing them both as Rick, Carl and the others are fleeing. Not at all like the way she dies in the show with the sappy music and farewell speech. Rick witnesses this, leading to his crazy phone conversations with ghost Lori later
Hershel also gets killed as they are fleeing. At this point, all his kids are dead except Maggie. Two of his youngest daughters had previously had their heads chopped off by a former prison inmate.
After seeing Lori and her baby's corpses, one of the governor's people realizes what monsters they've become and she kills the governor. He actually dies at the hands of one of his own people. Only after slaughtering some of Rick's group do they see the folly of following the governor and his madness
Andrea, who is ten times cooler and badass than her TV counterpart, survives all this, unlike the recent episode of the show. Glenn, Maggie, Carl, Dale, and Rick are all still alive at this point, but separated after the governor's attack. Two of these people do eventually die in the comic though. It remains to be seen if that will happen in the show
