If any of you are watching the show and don't plan on ever reading the comic, here's just a few of the crazy things that we didn't see on the show to give a sense of how dramatically different the show is from the comic.
Rick, Glenn, and Michonne are captured by the governor. He chops off Rick's hand, causing Michonne to furiously attack the governor, which leads to...

The infamous torture sequences where the governor brutally beats and rapes Michonne repeatedly, while Glenn is in the next room over listening every day that this goes on. She later gets her revenge and does a lot more damage to the governor than just the eye we saw him lose on the TV show

Tyreese is eventually captured by the governor. The governor sloppily, brutally chops off his head after repeated swings with an axe, while Rick's group is watching helplessly at the prison. Given Tyreese's role in the comic, this would have been the equivalent of Daryl getting killed.

Lori is shot by the governor's people as they invade the prison. The shot also hits her baby, killing them both as Rick, Carl and the others are fleeing. Not at all like the way she dies in the show with the sappy music and farewell speech. Rick witnesses this, leading to his crazy phone conversations with ghost Lori later

Hershel also gets killed as they are fleeing. At this point, all his kids are dead except Maggie. Two of his youngest daughters had previously had their heads chopped off by a former prison inmate.

After seeing Lori and her baby's corpses, one of the governor's people realizes what monsters they've become and she kills the governor. He actually dies at the hands of one of his own people. Only after slaughtering some of Rick's group do they see the folly of following the governor and his madness

Andrea, who is ten times cooler and badass than her TV counterpart, survives all this, unlike the recent episode of the show. Glenn, Maggie, Carl, Dale, and Rick are all still alive at this point, but separated after the governor's attack. Two of these people do eventually die in the comic though. It remains to be seen if that will happen in the show

I also realized that considering the timeframe between The Governor leaving, driving to the prison, attacking the prison, fleeing, Rick and his team deciding to go after them, and their arrival to the room where Andrea was, it means that Andrea alternated between nervously glancing at Milton and attempting to pick up pliers with her feet for roughly 4 hours.

Here's my ramblings on the matter:
I'm kind of annoyed that Andrea's arc built up to nothing.

I'm also getting the feeling that The Governor is still alive (and inked to a main cast member Season 4 deal ...) because Nicotero is off the show.

The first half of the season felt like it was quickly building to a specific type of show down ... only for to radically change. Even in the finale ... where do you go after insane? It seems like the show was going to end that character's arc ... but they pulled the rug out or something. At least that's how it feels.

I got a really similar sensation when going from Season 1 to Season 2 ... and the big shift was no more sets. We're going to stay in one location the entire season, basically. And, apparently, that was one of the primary reasons why Darabont was gone, because of the amount that Season 1 cost for what was going on. (They really did go to a ridiculous amount of expensive locations for 6 episodes)

The shift from Season 2 to 3 ... was very consistent. So, I have a feeling that Season 4 is going to be really dragged out. Maybe it's filled with character events that'd happen anyway, but as good as the show is, and it is a very good show ... it really feels like it's dropping the ball in a lot of areas and leaving things to be desired.

I know we hear all the time about how they want to keep the show "fresh" ... but honestly, it's getting more predictable and "safe" feeling as it goes on. On the companion show Talking Dead ... one of the guests, Yvette Nicole Brown from Community, even pointed out like ... the show use to have more impact. She didn't mean it negatively or anything ... but it could be argued that the show may not be handling material as well, overall, as it did in the beginning.

And the downside for me from the beginning of the show was that I was already so familiar with the universe, characters, and plot ... I was only half interested. The most interesting things are where it's different ... and I want the show to blaze it's own trail ... but I want to be of better quality. And it's good now, like I said ... but it could be a lot better.

I agree with everything, especially the end, it could be a lot better.

I hate mulbury and the governor. I wished they never had that section.
With this, this show became terra nova, which is a really crappy show.
I just want the core crew trying to stay alive from zombies, not that idiot 'governor'. And at the end, he is still not end. Die already, you've been boring me since the first episode you showed up.
The Walking Dead should not focus that much on human vs human.
The Walking Dead should focus on human vs not-human-anymore.
The finale was a let down. Still looking forward to the next season.
Wait another year, right?

EDIT:
What was the heavy breathing red-neck call-in guy on Talking Dead about to say before he got cut off? The guests were all like omg.
I love that phrase 'That just happened....'

That guy was attempting to quote bible nonsense about when the dead will rise and it's because of your sin and stuff like that. I don't think he was actually cut off, he, apparently, hung up.

One thing the show and comic do have in common, heavily, is that zombies become less and less of a threat as the story moves on, and the threats do come more from the living. However, one large difference is, in the comic the largest threats come from the people themselves. They become their own worst enemies on many occasions.

If the show was just killing zombies ...
it'd be pretty boring, especially if the outset goal is "survive", as a viewer I'd be bored to tears by that. You don't really care THAT much about the characters to just watch them go on zombie hunts then come back to safety to huddle and eat beans. So, some exterior plot needs to exist there. Though ... the dead becoming almost threat-less to certain tiers of characters is pretty annoying. It's also annoying when certain characters die because of a need in the plot ... plot devices are really aggravating. The finale had a big one, namely, Andrea succumbing to a bite when we already saw her be half free. We've seen her survive much more difficult zombie situations before, so it's kind of annoying that she was killed in that manner ... and it's actually rather insulting that she got bit off camera. Almost like, instead of toying with character expectations ... you're toying with expectations based on how it's presented ... and that's actually a really cheap way to create suspense or shock. It just makes the decision look dumb.
It actually makes me feel pretty conflicted inside because I'm a huge Kirkman fan, I know he has most of the creative control over the show (Retaining ownership of the Walking Dead brand, and all) ... so it's kind of surprising to see it being done this way. Though ... he can be very hit and miss in his story elements at times. (For example, his Ultimate X-Men run had some decent ideas, but was overall terrible.)

I think overall ... they need to press down that accelerator and really rev up the events in the show, because it looks like they're easing up. It really bothers me when shows spend two seasons building up characters ... and then they kind run their course for a season or two after that. I like continual fresh ideas. I don't just want to see something continue to play out, I want to see new events happen that change the focus and importance of what they're doing. And ... this show doesn't look like it's doing that ... it looks like it's doubling down.
