Look, man. This game has always been seen as a spin-off since its conception (ever since I've followed the news on it, at least) and is in no way pretending to be part of the main series.

Is it the TRUE Silent Hill experience? No, of course not. Play the main games.

Does it have content that a Silent Hill fan would like? Yes. It has tons of creatures, environments, and weapons that are familiar to fans. There's a lot to enjoy for a die-hard fan who wants to kill some familiar enemies.

In no way does this game ruin what is Silent Hill. It has about as much impact on the main series as Mario Kart does to the Mario platformers.

That would be fine and good if this was a Resident Evil game: I don't have any problems with the Resident Evil rail shooter spin-offs. But the difference between Resident Evil and Silent Hill is that Silent Hill is art and Resident Evil isn't. You can't just remove, copy and paste bits and pieces of it. Just like in a good movie, everything is there for a reason. Enemy, character and level design serves a deeper purpose. They're all a part of the grand picture, telling a story subtly and either indirectly or nonverbally.

Don't compare Mountain Dew to champagne.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Art is subjective and at the mercy of its creators (and in the case of games, at the mercy of the rights' holders.).

If they want pyramid head in the next seven Silent Hills then by golly he'll be there.

The point still stands: spin-offs do not affect the main series gameplay.
