Consoles that you passed up new
What are some of the console's you guys passed up new then obtained later? Did you regret not picking it up during the duration of it's run? The main one for me would have been the PS2. I rolled with the Cube that game so I missed out on allot of good exclusives. I think it's pretty hard to say that the ps2 wasn't the best game of it's generation. It just has so many games.

Nah, the only way i would of passed it up, i would of had to been older at the time it was new, because i didnt get my first job till 2002.
But i think it would of been sweet to get a TurboGrafx16, Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast when they were new.

Re: Consoles that you passed up new
Pretty much the fourth generation and up? I think the Playstation 2 is the only console i've personally purchased "new", but that was still several years after it came out. I was given two Gameboys (a color and an advance) and a Playstation as gifts while they were new too.
But other than that, i'm fine with waiting. I don't really regret not buying any of them new, because a short time after they're out I can save a ton of money on the system and peripherals and I don't need to wait to start putting together a library for it. I was nearly nagged into buying a Vita, but after a few months I looked at the titles available for it and couldn't find anything that would keep me interested for more than a few hours.
I bought my Ps3 Slim boxed from a game store for about $100 only a year after it was released. Right away I was able to pick up Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Infamous, Uncharted and a pile of other great titles. I'm fine with this approach, as opposed to paying 5 times more and having to wait for a selection of good titles.
All that being said, I have to agree with Hazerd. A Saturn, Dreamcast or Turbografx-16 would've been pretty neat to have at launch.

I passed on a PlayStation in favour of an N64, and a PlayStation 2 in favour of a GameCube. Thankfully I wised up this time around, and bloody well got both a Wii and a PlayStation 3.

I think the Vita was the only console I purchased within a year of launch.
Well, that and the Neo Geo X.

I passed up both the Saturn and PS1 in favor of the N64. I remember being super jealous at all the kids in school who were raving about Final Fantasy 7 when it came out.
I also passed on the Gamecube, which even now I don't have but I did get a Wii which let me snag a GC collection to play with. I kinda regret missing out on Smash Bros Melee and the Metroid Prime games for it.

I passed up the PS2 in favor of the Gamecube, but finally picked one up a couple of years ago. Now that Gamestop is basically giving their PS2 games away (one clerk lamented that they're trying to get rid of them but they can't because people keep bringing tons of them to trade in), I've been able to pick up most of the ones I really wanted for next to nothing, which is awesome for a gamer on a budget. I figure they'll stop taking PS2 trade ins at some point, so I'm trying to take advantage of the low prices while I can.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

Re: Consoles that you passed up new
I always get new consoles, my brother had a Xbox and a PS2 (and a actual PS1) and I bought myself a Gamecube when I was six. No joke, I saved the like 50 cents I got as allowance and did extra chores and grabbed a special edition platinum with metroid prime as a pack in. I sold Metroid unfortunately because it scared me when I was younger. We already had a color and I bought the DS but not the DSi because it was pointless to me, and a PSP (which I sold, i want one to mod now.) I bought a PS3 and Xbox 360 with my own money too. I got a Wii for Christmas too. Really, the only system I didn't have was a Dreamcast that came out new when I was young.
I had a GBA/GBC too.
Hmmm... a vita? I don't want one though.
And no, I am not spoiled, I save my money. I saved my allowance and did extra chores for like 2 years.

All of them I guess? Not something I've really thought about, but I guess it's no surprise to myself that I've been planning on waiting out for the new ones a bit, when I've pretty much always done that. It's funny that the Wii is the only console I bought on release day. Previously it was a tradition for my grandparents to get me the Nintendo consoles for Christmas, I saved up a bunch of allowance and lawn money for an Xbox one year, 360 for graduation after it was out for awhile, and yeah. Usually wait for a price drop or two and more importantly, for them to have some GOOD games. Most launch lineups have sucked.
And damn it'll just get easier and easier to wait things out from here on with how insane my backlog is and how oversaturated things have gotten.

Since I've had disposable income starting around 1995, none. I've picked up everything that has been released, usually at launch. Sometimes it really bites me in the ass, though, like when I got my 3DS at launch.
