Speakers & Blu-Ray Suggestions

#1. I want speakers for my TV. Any suggestions? Nothing too pricey (half a K or so is too pricey).

#2. Is it worth getting a PS3 if I have a Wii for Netflix and zero PS3 games, or will a BluRay player suffice? What reasons exist for not getting a BluRay and getting a PS3 instead. And how small are these PS3 slims, anyway?

#1 You can find some older HT setups for waaaaaaaaaay less than $500. Look around on ebay for used equipment and stuff.

I should have been clearer.

The speakers are going on our wedding registry, so I'd like a decent and new set.

Also, I live in NY, and so space is a commodity. I'd rather not get a bulky PS3 unless there's a compelling reason for it. If I do get one, I doubt I'd get any games for it at all. I'd probably just put it away until we're forced into BluRay. We're fine with DVD at the moment. (In fact, we're both not fans of HD. Go figure.)

I would say that Netfix on PS3 in in HD whereas on Wii it is not, but that is not a good thing in your case. There are many good games to be played on the PS3 (and can be played standard definition). I think many people would choose a PS3 over a regular blu-ray player due to the gameplay aspect.

You can also buy two extra satellite speakers for a 7.1 channel setup. They are currently out of stock though.

1) You might want to try to find a place that deals in audio equipment and try out some speakers to get a good idea of what's out there.

Do you already have a receiver? I'd recommend getting one if you think you might use the speakers to listen to anything besides TV.
If that doesn't matter to you, I know Bose makes a little standalone speaker for TVs. It's audiophile-heresy to recommend Bose, but since space is an issue it might be worth considering? It's $400, which depending on your situation might be more than it's worth; Bose is known for being overpriced but space-efficient.

2) If you have no interest in PS3 games, you'd probably be better off with a Blu-Ray player. I can't imagine there would be a difference in quality and most players can stream Netflix, both a player and PS3 should give an edge in Netflix quality over the Wii.
