Sonic 2 CIB is worth a few bucks max, certainly not $8.TheSonicRetard wrote:I understood your post, but from the prices you quoted, it seems more like the box is a freebee, with the price being about what a cart by itself might go for.
Who else prices games this way?

Actually, if you want to talk about weird pricing, I used to know some places who priced their PS1 games by how many discs they had.
Re: Who else prices games this way?
I've used doublewide DVD cases and UGC cases in the past as well. Ultimately, everything wound up being a waste of money, because I personally wasn't satisfied until I had a collection full of the real deals. I guess their "worth" will vary depending on the person. A boxed collection, even if they're doublewide DVD cases, still looks much better than a bunch of loose carts.CFFJR wrote:See that's interesting, especially since I've never seen one of the Brazilian cases in person.
Do you think they're worth it with the differences being what they are, or is original the way to go?
I've gone out of my way to get original cases before and I will again, but at the same time it'd be nice to have these easily available, and possibly a better alternative to UGCs or 27mm dvd boxes.
If you're a perfectionist, you'll likely want the real cases. If you're just looking to make your collection look presentable, I think even the DVD cases are worth it.
Ah, I'm not really familiar with the value of games I've had for such a long time, because I don't ever look into getting them. Totally unaware of the usual going price for Sonic 2.o.pwuaioc wrote:Sonic 2 CIB is worth a few bucks max, certainly not $8.TheSonicRetard wrote:I understood your post, but from the prices you quoted, it seems more like the box is a freebee, with the price being about what a cart by itself might go for.
This was a common practice in areas of Europe with floppy based games. Developers would try to keep the number of disks required down, to drive down the price of the game, so they'd have a better chance at selling more copies.AppleQueso wrote:Actually, if you want to talk about weird pricing, I used to know some places who priced their PS1 games by how many discs they had.
Re: Who else prices games this way?
Why spend $2 per case when I can buy crappy sports games for 50 cents or a dollar and use the case? I print out covers from the cover project and they fit perfectly into the originals. With the textured plastic you can barely tell the difference. Not that I don't prefer an original, but for the few loose games I can't pass up or the really expensive complete games, it works.

I should note that UGC cases are actually a bit bigger than normal cases, so they don't actually fit perfectly. I don't have the exact percentage offhand, but I needed to scale them down a bit to get them to fit a normal case. I'm sure there's a topic on the covers project that goes into more detail if anybody is really interested.

There's a difference between cutting down on manufacturing costs and just being a werido selling used Ps1 games.TheSonicRetard wrote:.This was a common practice in areas of Europe with floppy based games. I've actually got a bunch of random empty genesis cases I don't need.
Re: Who else prices games this way?
It wasn't a manufacturing thing. Individual stores would set the price of games based on how many disks it contained. This practice died with the Amiga and Atari ST.AppleQueso wrote:There's a difference between cutting down on manufacturing costs and just being a werido selling used Ps1 games.TheSonicRetard wrote:.This was a common practice in areas of Europe with floppy based games. Re: Who else prices games this way?
What's funny about that is I'm kind of in between. For other systems (snes and the like) I care, but not nearly as much. Print a cover, pop them in a case they fit into, and I'm happy. Just so long as they're not loose.TheSonicRetard wrote:I've used doublewide DVD cases and UGC cases in the past as well. Its Sega stuff where I get tweaked and want original and complete.
You're gonna think I'm nuts and that's totally fair, you'd be right to say it.Jrecee wrote:Why spend $2 per case when I can buy crappy sports games for 50 cents or a dollar and use the case? I don't like swiping cases from sports games, because then I end up with a sports game that has no case.
Sure I could just transfer it to another style case with a printed cover, but what if the sports game in question came with the original cover insert? It sits untouched.
Yeah... even I don't think it makes sense.

Yes, I'm aware how wishy washy and all over the place this post is.

Some are kinda dirty, missing hangtabs, etc. Basically about the typical condition you'd expect to find an average genesis case in.CFFJR wrote:Are they in good shape? Sell 'em to me.AppleQueso wrote:I've actually got a bunch of random empty genesis cases I don't need.
Send me a PM if you're serious about it, I can dig them out in the morning for you.
Re: Who else prices games this way?
The only thing I can't deal with is if the insert plastic is cut or coming off. I actually don't mind missing hangtabs and they're easy to clean, so that's all cool.AppleQueso wrote:Some are kinda dirty, missing hangtabs, etc. Basically about the typical condition you'd expect to find an average genesis case in.CFFJR wrote:Are they in good shape? I am serious, and I'll message you about it soon.
