Dear Luke,
I have the perfect idea for your neighborhood's 5K this morning. You will need:
1. Your wife's finest spandex tights
2. Spandex workout top/Sports Bra
3. A few feather boas
4. A top hat (with monocle for perfect effect)
5. A stationary exercise bike
Either run around in your front yard, hop on the exercise bike, or jump into the fray with all the participants. For best results, put the exercise bike in the middle of the road and yell at people for being in the way. Your reputation in the neighborhood might be shot afterwards, but I can only imagine you having a lot of fun with it. See if they hold any more 5Ks after your award-winning performance.

Apparently it was a 10k.Blu wrote:Dear Luke,

Fortunately, or unfortunately, my wife is about 5', 100 lbs. I'm over 6', 185 lbs., so wearing her stuff just won't work. However all these races has me thinking about erecting a "Lemonade, PED's, and doping" stand.
Smile: Done with taxes. No more double checking, no more looking for extra receipts...I'm done. With state and federal combined, I'll be seeing nearly a 3k return.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Nice! So what are you going to do with it? I couldn't do it this year, unfortunately, but when I get my tax refund every year, I like to do one thing for myself that I couldn't normally afford to before I put the rest towards bills and such. That's how I was able to get my NES Powerpak and so far, it's been worth every penny.Luke wrote:Smile: Done with taxes. No more double checking, no more looking for extra receipts...I'm done. I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

Put it into paying off my mortgage (Party on, right?). Have a thirty year fixed, looking to pay it off in ten years. So far, so good. Might save some "change" to visit family in Chicago.Retrodude wrote:

I had a very strong assumption that I would owe money, so I'm a very happy camper. Sometimes it pays to be in debt, but I'm ready to won my home, all out.

I used to owe money on my returns every year until I bought my house. That mortgage interest is awesome for deductions.Luke wrote:Put it into paying off my mortgage (Party on, right?). Popo - How much is your house! Mortgage interest has to be above the standardized deduction of what, like 12K? Unless you have some other crazy deductions too. I think our mortgage interest was like 7K and our other deductions for property tax and dontations was like $4,500.
After I itemize, i'm always still best claiming the standard minimum.
Luke - I don't know how you get money back w/o kids, unless maybe your claiming 0 and paying out more than you need to all year?
Pre-kids, we used to break right around even, maybe pay in a couple hundred. After our first, we got back about 1K of what we paid in. Now with 4 kids we get about $800 per it seems to average out at, this year we got a little under 3K from federal and $200 from state.

My interest was 10k last year, 4k property tax, and almost 6k at Child's Play and itemizing was much better than the standard minimum, but for me the standard minimum is pitiful, since I'm single with no dependents; I think the standard is 3.5k for me.mjmjr25 wrote:Popo - How much is your house! When I was still in the apartment I generally just went with the standard, since my Child's Play would be at about the same level of deduction, but having the house puts me far above that.

Looking at Mike's Racketman pictures, that didn't seem to dissuade him.Luke wrote:Fortunately, or unfortunately, my wife is about 5', 100 lbs. I'm over 6', 185 lbs., so wearing her stuff just won't work.

@popo - ahh, been awhile I guess *facepalm*, completely spaced that the standard was less for singles, etc. We put about half down on our house too, which means we actually pay about half the interest each year that we would otherwise. Nice all year of course, but also the reason our interest number is low at the end of the year for tax purposes.
