(To be fair, since it booted up, they should have at least given it a 0.5...) I purchased the issues when it was released, and the review was priceless. Regardless, I would like to add the game to my "terrible videogames" collection, but it actually sells for $11 used...which is more than I am usually willing to pay for good GBA games!
EDIT: I have heard that the GBA port of Sonic the Hedgehog is atrocious, but I have th R-Type III port. The music is WAY off, but otherwise, it is not that bad.
Yikes, 11 bucks for Mortal Kombat Advance? Jeez. Usually most really bad games can be had for much cheaper than that. I think I paid less for a brand new copy of F-Zero GP Legend for the GBA, and that game's my favorite for the GBA thus far.
From what I heard, the port of R-Type III for the GBA wasn't as good was mainly because of the fact that the company who worked on the port, couldn't get the source code so they had to do it from scratch, or something like that. Hell I think it was mentioned on here via one of the GBA guides on here? I could be wrong but I thought I read something on here about R-Type III for the GBA. I'll take a listen on youtube for R-Type III GBA music to see how it sounds compared to the SNES version (the SNES music is awesome BTW).

You mean like Resident Evil 2 or Duke Nukem Forever?
I remember Mortal Kombat as well.
Only game I remember was Jeopardy, which my friend told me was the best game he had for it (and he had a few games). All that really needs to be said, not that I have anything against Jeopardy.

You should do that. R-Type III on the SNES is a wonderful game, and the music is fantastic. That is why it is so jarring to fire up the GBA version and hear a horrible, tinny reproduction of the game's soundtrack.
X-Men: Gamemaster's Legacy on Game Gear. I had high hopes for this one since the Genesis X-Men games were well done. But no such luck on the Game Gear X-Men game.

I did do a comparison by watching a couple of videos that actually did compare the SNES R Type III music versus GBA R Type III music. Wow......what a difference. The GBA R Type III actually doesn't look too bad but that music....yeah. It's almost less than Genesis quality. It made my ears bleed. Not quite as bad as that Somari bootleg game (dear God is the audio horrible on that game), but close enough. Such a shame because the audio on the SNES version is just beyond awesome. I listened to the tracks from that version on Youtube and wow. Good stuff. I really want that game, but I'm not sure if I want to plunk down 55 bucks for a cart only copy. Should have gotten it when it was 30 bucks a year and a half ago or so.
I am not sure I have any "terrible" games in my handheld collection but I definitely have some disappointing ones. Such as RoboCop 2 on GameBoy, the first was a masterpiece IMO but number 2 really let me down, yes it may look at bit better but in feels clunky to me. I was pretty let down in Jurassic Park for Game Gear but number 2 completely saved it for me because I love the game and have beaten it 3 times, it is not exactly easy but it is just hard enough.
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 for the Nintendo DS - by all rights, it should have been a really good wrestling game, as it looks really damn good for a DS game (it looks almost as good as a PS2 game, it even has entrances with full titantron videos), and the controls are somewhat similar to the Smackdown games (one button for grapple and one for punch, for running, etc). Unfortunately, the controls are extremely laggy. It's not an exaggeration to say that pushing a button makes the move come out 2 seconds later. Which leads to your character being maimed by the CPU, because obviously they don't have to struggle with control latency.
TNA Impact for the DS also suffers from the same control latency, but that one at least doesn't try to get your hopes up because it looks like ass, and the console version also had poor controls. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 on the PS2 and the WII on the other hand were awesome.
SteveyMajors wrote:The Game Boy port of the first Mortal Kombat is wretched. It's ugly, the sound effects are nigh audible, and there is a half-second delay between a button press and its action. But I was a kid and didn't have too many games, so I played it constantly. I was desperate for a handheld fighter, I guess.
I got it as a present as a kid. I imagine a timelapse video of my facial expression from bootup to gameplay would be hilarious. Granted, I was never a great fan of MK, in any form, but was expecting something halfway playable, in the tradition of old MK. Basically, what I got was stick figures having the occasional seizure. It was on one cart with the GB port of MK II, I believe. The latter leaving little impression on me, but I recall it did improve on the MKI port. Not hard, but there's that.
