Sorry if this topic already exsists, I wasn't able to find anything in my searches.
So, I have seen mentioned many times that the ps3 is THE jrpg console this generation, but I haven't seen much discussion to the quality of these titles. Now that I've made the jump and purchased a ps3, I'm wondering what you guys think of all these jrpgs?
Is Tales of Graces F a solid Tales of... title? I know its supposed to have way more content than the 360 release of Vesperia, but I see Vesperia talked about much more often.
How are the Atelier and Ar Tonelico games? Do they require playing earlier games in the series to enjoy?
How is Hyperdimension Neptunia, and did those that like the first game enjoy the sequel?
I don't want to keep the discussion limited to these games, but I figured I should get the ball rolling. So feel free to praise or bash any ps3 jrpg.

Eternal Sonata is my favorite PS3 JRPG. Really interesting story and characters. Your mileage may vary I suppose, several people here weren't crazy about it. It has some of my favorite graphics this generation, nice and colorful.
A quick note about Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel - the US version went out of print really really fast. If you order from Amazon you'll get a PAL copy.

Eternal Sonata looks awesome. Its another game I had always wanted to try, but avoided because I didn't want to get the 360 port and lose out on content. I'll definitely check this one out. I see it has multi-player, but the game looks turn-based. Is the multi-player similar to that in FFVI/IX?
Thats a shame about Ar Tonelico, as I usually like to get my games from the same region, but since there is supposed to be no difference, I may make an exception here.

Demon's and Dark Souls should be obligatory, dungeon crawling boiled down to perfection if that's your thing.
I really love the Yakuza games and try to spread the word there as much as I can, I typed up some thoughts here
I'd also greatly praise Nier and 3D Dot Game Heroes as being some of the most original JRPG experiences I've played in a very long time. Excellent games and both very affordable last I knew.

Re: Lets talk ps3 jrpgs
I've not tried Demon's Souls, but I did try Dark Souls a bit on the 360 and enjoyed it, although it was a pretty brutal experience, and lacking Gold, I was not able to play online. I'll have to give the first game a chance. Do people still play them online?
I've also always wanted to get into the Yakuza games too, but I currently don't have a way to play the ps2 games. Is it best to play them in order?
Nier is one I did play on the 360, and I loved it.
I actually saw 3D Dot Game Heroes, but for some reason thought it was a Minecraft-style game. I'll pick that one up as well, had no idea it was in the lieks of Zelda.

Guess I'll be the first to mention Valkyria Chronicles. If you like SRPGs then I'd say it's a must-have. If you don't like SRPGs... get it anyway.
Also, while technically not an RPG, Catherine is a lot of fun and is made by the team who makes the Persona games, so it has a similar vibe.

Well like anything else it is best to start from the beginning, but it's not absolutely necessary. There is an HD collection with the first two games, but it has yet to be localized.

Cool, now that I know people still play em online, I'll be pcking up DS very soon. As for Yakuza, I'll probably either wait for the HD release, or wait until I pick up a working ps2.
Thank you all for the suggestions so far!
I had not heard of this game at all! I am usually hit-or-miss when it comes to SRPGs, but this one looks top-notch. I'll defiintely be checking this out.WallCrusher wrote:Guess I'll be the first to mention Valkyria Chronicles. If you like SRPGs then I'd say it's a must-have. Re: Lets talk ps3 jrpgs
The RPG console of this gen was probably PSP. Ah...
I'll second Valkyria Chronicles. It's incredible. If you like SRPGs, you should also try out Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement.
If you want a NIS alchemy game, Atelier Meruru and Atelier Ayesha are supposed to be the best.
