I think it only gets me when it's a directly related series with sequels or something. In times like this I usually like to look at the whole thing and weigh my thoughts on the experience as a whole, but if there's a sour spot there with an entry that I thought was weak then it's a little bothersome. I'll get a lot of "what if's" and stuff.

For something like Final Fantasy mentioned earlier, I have no problem feeling disconnected about any of them that I didn't like because they're their own stories and even developed by incredibly different teams over the years I'm sure.

Although I get pretty opinionated about FFXIII or something like that, it's never crossed my mind to see fans of stuff like that that I didn't enjoy as "lesser fans" or anything goofy like that. It's just more "they don't even know!..." to me.

Even my beloved Zelda isn't an exception. I couldn't even bring myself to finish Phantom Hourglass and didn't care to try Spirit Tracks since it looked similar. Metroid has Other M, Mario has... yikes, Sunshine as AppleQueso mentioned. Was never big on Megaman 7-8, or X7-X8 (funny being the same numbers). Resident Evil has 5-6, and more currently I've finally been running through the old DMC's and yep DMC2 was as bad as I always heard, wish I could wipe that one from my mind. FEAR 3, Lost Planet 2... etc yeah I'm sure I could come up with a pretty big list here.

Ugh, I get this bad. Except in my case I almost always prefer the first game in a series over any of the followups. This is true of most forms of media.

I like the original Zelda best. I love MGS1 and hate the rest of the series. But... well, my favourite Opeth album is Orchid and my favourite Ridley Scott movie is The Duellists. It carries on across pretty much all forms of media.

I honestly am not sure if I ever have experienced this with video games, because it's uncommon for me to play several games in a series and only like a certain one and hate the others for whatever reason. What IS more common for me is to like a video game series but proclaim my favorite of the series as something that isn't the obvious favorite, or proclaim my love for a game in the series that is generally disliked. For example, I love the Legend of Zelda series (arguably my favorite video game series of all time), and one of my favorite entries is Zelda II. Yes, Zelda II. The one everybody else kinda doesn't like as much as the others. Another one would be that I like Mortal Kombat 3 more than 2. That type of viewpoint for me is more common, and I'm like that with music too:

For example, my favorite Talking Heads album is Speaking In Tongues (not Remain In Light, the obvious choice). My favorite Foo Fighters album? The first, self-titled one (not The Colour And The Shape). My favorite Deftones CD? Around The Fur (as opposed to the obvious White Pony).

So to answer the original question, no I haven't gotten to the point where I only like a certain game or games in a series (not yet at least).
