What was the last movie you've seen?

For those interested, I'd recommend reading Bruce Campbell's autobiography If Chins Could Kill. At least half the book is a very thorough telling of how they made Evil Dead. It's facinating stuff and ought to be required reading for anyone wanting to make a low-budget movie.

Huh. To me he was just there playing another exaggerated caricature who had zero originality.
You may have not thought the character was entirely original, but Carrey's performance as said character was a grand return to form. He hit his physical comedic notes like a true seasoned pro, and completely stole each scene he appeared in.

Luke, don't hate on the Delta 88. My grandparents own one, and that thing rides freaking amazingly. Smells like cigarettes, but I really don't care.

Glad to hear Evil Dead is good though. I'm a giant fan, and I love those movies. Finding someone to go with might be a bit hard though.

IMHO he completely phoned it in. He was his plain old self, which is silly but tired. I expected "A Return To Comedy". He gave us "Jim trying to be Jim twenty years ago", which we've seen for twenty years.

Actually I might have found some folks to go with. A coworker thinks her boyfriend while want to go, while another has indictated she'll come if her girlfriend does too.

I just watched Brave. I feel pretty much the same way about it that I do Wreck it Ralph. Good, not great. There were things I enjoyed about it, but overall it just never really grabbed me in a big way. Were there any truly great, CGI family movies in 2012? Will I find Rise of the Guardians underwhelming as well? They had Kung Fu Panda 2 on HBO this week so I watched it again, and it's so much better than both Brave and Wreck it Ralph and it's a 2011 movie. The original Kung Fu Panda is better than Brave and Wreck it Ralph too, by a wide margin. I even got more enjoyment out of the 7 minute long Paperman than I did Wreck it Ralph and Brave.

When I think of great stuff like The Incredibles, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, the original Shrek, Ratatouille, and Despicable Me, movies like Brave and Wreck it Ralph seem so mediocre by comparison. Tangled is another one I liked, and Brave never manages to be as good as that either.

The Lorax! :D It was made by the same studio who did Despicable Me and written by the same people who wrote Horton Hears A Who and not only is it an amazing adaptation of the book, but I would argue it actually improves on it (if such a thing is possible) by making Onceler a likeable character you want to root for before the inevitable happens. The ending is incredibly powerful too and I actually got a little misty eyed. I'm a big softie, though, so your experience might differ from mine.

Haha! We watched that yesterday too! I was thinking about posting about it, but didn't feel like it. I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't anything special in my opinion. The music was probably one of my biggest gripes.

Not that it is the end all or say all of movie reviews, but have you guys been to rottentomatoes lately? If you think I'm tough on movies, you should read what critics have been saying about the movies of 2013 thus far. Their reviews make my critiques sound gentle.

No but Frankenweenie and ParaNorman were stellar animated movies that had some CGI. Both are worth owning.
