Also, I'm doing this in the shortest vehicle we own, my mom's little F150. My car and my dad's truck are both longer. We have one other vehicle, but it has hot inspection stickers on it, and is the same length as my moms, so....

Didn't read from the start of the parallel parking talk, but...

Kinda funny when I had to parallel park on my road test. It had just snowed a day or two before and the roads were plowed. You know how when they're plowed and all the snow is pushed up against the curbs? I had to parallel park against that. So I technically couldn't hit the curb, being that it was covered with snow. In fact, I couldn't even get close to the curb since the snow came out at least 6 inches from it. I just had to pretend that the snow was the curb, and parked along it. I hit the snow while parking, which I don't think was fair. If I had a truck, I could have just kept backing up. But being in the little sedan I was in, I had to pull forward and back up again. It's harder to judge where the snow is versus a curb. IIRC, I got points off for that. But being that I aced everything else, I didn't really care.

I have to parallel park fairly often, in front of my house. I could only imagine if I lived in the city, I'd probably have to parallel park at least once a day. Though if I lived in the city, I'd opt not to drive if possible.

Phantom? Spooky.

I agree though. A life without parallel parking is unfathomable in a major urban area.

Living in the city, almost all my parking is parallel. However it wasn't required on my drivers test.

Frankly, I wish the US drivers test was much more strict than it is. So many unskillful, crazy, belligerent people on the roads, it drives me mad. It would be nice if we weeded more of them out.

In college, fighting for a parking space made parallel parking an everyday occurrence.

Signal, pull up, front wheel to front wheel, reverse, turn hard when back wheel is aligned with back door of car parked ahead of you.

Watching people who can't parallel park can be a thing of beauty.

Parallel parking isn't that hard. Not sure I'd never need to do that, but it wasn't an issue for me when I took my test.

(Of course, I did have a lot of smaller issues that ultimately compounded and made me fail, and I haven't had a chance to retake it because I somehow don't know a single person with a vehicle that is working, legal, and has automatic transmission that will let me use it to retake the damn thing...)

Parallel Parking = Easier than having sex in the back seat of a Corvette.

Automatic transmission also seems to be a much bigger thing over there than here. The one or two people I know with an automatic car learnt to drive in a manual, as do most other people.

Wouldn't it be better to have sex on the hood? I mean, I assume whoever can afford a Corvette can afford to get it cleaned afterward, so why not? Show off your prize while you're getting your rocks off with your trophy.
