Gamecube Player rarity?

Post by someone3760 »

Are these things rare? I remember my dad taking me to gamestop a long time ago and he bought me and my sister one of these new. We still have it with the disk, case, instructions, stuff.

Do you mean the Game Boy Player? If so, then no. I saw them going for $10 at GameStop before they stopped carrying Gamecube stuff. And I had no problem getting one.

Like everything else though, the price seems to be climbing. The local retro game store used to ask $20 for them, now they're charging $40.

They were $50 everywhere for a while, then when Gamestop started to get rid of GBA stuff they suddenly had a bunch at stores and were selling them for $15.

I think the GBA Players are climbing in price too. I managed to grab one on Ebay for around $28 shipped, which I was pleased with, having seen them go for over $40. I wanted to get hold of one before I look in 6 months and see them even higher.

I think the issue is the disk. You can find a bunch of Players by themselves for next to nothing, but it seems people may be discarding the discs or separating them from the Player itself, not knowing what it is. The disc alone can go for more than $30 right now on Ebay.

Great piece of hardware in my opinion. From what I understand, it is not an emulator, but has the GBA hardware inside it. It really expands the Gamecube library and looks really neat sitting under the Gamecube.
Need Hexyz Force and Class of Heroes 2 for a complete PSP RPG Set.....let me know your price!!!!

I wouldn't say that. I scored a complete Cube with a controller, cables, GB player and start up disc for around $40 last year. But I haven't checked out current prices.

(for about $100 more, the cost of the damn "propietary" cable)

I don't think the player is rare but the disc for the player to work seems to be hard to find and pretty expensive at times. Seems like it is what everyone loses it. I've got 3-4 players and one disc. :?

I second this.

The little disc is hard to find.

Just keep an eye out for them.

They do come in a special case. If you manage to find a case, you may get lucky and its got the disc.

I have two gameboy players for the longest time and I finally got a second disc last year.
