Exactly. That consistency is the reason why I love their movies. It's the reason why it was a good move for Disney to buy them, because Marvel is the Disney of the comic book world. They're a good match and I can't wait til they start doing stuff together cause it's gonna be awesome.

I really wish we could start getting some more comic book TV shows. I mean Hollywood is getting saturated with comic book movies, but there's still plenty of room for comic book TV. Plus, the comic book format is so perfect for TV. See The Walking Dead on AMC and Arrow on the CW. I hope S.H.I.E.L.D. opens the door for some more Marvel stuff as DC is the only company that has really been making inroads with Smallville and Arrow. It's been a long time since Marvel has had anything on TV like that Spider-Man show or Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk.

I would imagine Marvel wants most of us to forget that show ever existed. I don't think I ever saw a single super-villain in that show. And his webbing was a rope, lol!

But I do agree with you. Comic book stories are perfect for T.V. as they're already presented in an episodic format with long-arcing storylines.

But the problem is, a lot of comic book shows would require a very large budget to not be laughed off air, considering the fantastic powers, locations, and creatures often found in comics.

Street level characters like Batman and Wolverine would work great, though.

My only gripe is that
Weaver's voice is unmistakeable. You knew sooner or later she would be on screen.

For what it's worth, ABC is developing a series based on Powers and they're considering a new series based on The Hulk. Also, Fox is supposedly doing a Punisher series. ABC Family is doing a couple Marvel shows too. Personally, I'd love to see a show based on The Tomb Of Dracula or a Strange Tales anthology series featuring their more supernatural characters (Man Thing, Werewolf By Night, etc), but I don't know if they would ever think of that. Oh well.

I can totally see a moon knight action series. In a similar vein we have the Luke cage/iron fist show too.

Marvel has lots of series that have potential.

Casa De Mi Padre

Being able to speak Spanish fluently and having lived in a house with a mother of Costa Rican descent I feel like I know a thing or two about the infamous world of the Hispanic Telenovela. After all what person in a family of foreign descent hasn't caught an episode or two of the very often ridiculous stuff their parents watch on foreign language TV?

What Will Ferrell brings to the table is a surprisingly serious take on the genre and believe it or not, outside of the often sparse yet well inserted bits of comedy isn't that bad of a film. It plays to the strength of it's source material, namely the petty, outwardly insulting, gluttonous, lustful and self-centered nature of the characters present in most Soap Operas and Telenovelas. Add in often hilariously overacted scenes originally meant to poke fun at overzealous TV show directors who force their casts to portray their roles unnaturally in their hopes of becoming the next Speilberg and you have some movie gold, right?

Well, yes, and no.

As I mentioned before, Casa De Mi Padre's strongest points as a comedy are contained in the form of it's wonderfully bad source material, and yet that's also the source of many of it's flaws.

The actors and directors took almost too great an interest in making the film into a huge play on the subject of the Telenovela as a comedy that they left a bit too much Telenovela in the final script. Often the supposed deadpan delivery falls flat, as it it is delivered in a truly dramatic form and becomes overused. Some gags are repeatedly tossed out and become stale by mid-film, but when you consider what they had to work with in terms of plot there's really not much else they can go to for more jokes that would become out of place in the world the film has crafted.

In the end though, the film makes a good enough impression in the right direction to stay a positive course. Not to mention, if you're a native or fluent Spanish speaker the fact that the move is entirely voiced in the language, conveniently subtitled in English which is purposefully not entirely accurate to the on screen speech, is a complete bonus replete with little jokes almost every scene and lots of for the par, yet funny, dialogue. You can definitely tell that Ferrell had a lot of fun learning, practicing and working on this film as it really shows with the way he manages to pull off a near perfect delivery for a native English speaker.

In the end I can't rate this movie as a must watch satire like I had originally anticipated I would. I came into it expecting a picture perfect, or at least less padded, take that completely made fun of all the terrible television my Mom watches. But, after all is said and done it's definitely an offbeat, and purposely low-rent, fun look into the world of Hispanic television and a genuinely fresh comedy that brought a new type of parody to the table.

I rate this move a 3.5 out of 5.

If you've got some time and Netflix give it a shot, and you'll definitely have a fun evening with a couple buddies and some snacks, just make sure you don't pop for any of the expensive stuff.

I saw Battleship ... I wouldn't recommend it.

It's like someone made a Michael Bay movie without Michael Bay. I don't know if it's ... worse or better or what. The most clever thing in the movie is how they replicated Battleship play. Everything else is very generic paint by numbers ... I'm not sure if there were actually characters in it or not. I mean ... I saw some stereotypes ... but maybe not characters.

I'm going to watch something not awful tomorrow.

STOKER

Probably the best movie of 2013 so far. Not mind blowing by any means, but it is worth seeing twice. Gorgeous movie, great performances, solid story.

I love Battleship. It's the greatest bad movie ever made, pure grade-A cheese. It's fun to watch those and laugh at them.
