I haven't jailbroken my phone, nor do I plan to.

There used to be legitimate reasons to do this ... why do you need to now-a-days?

That's all you need. I highly recommend jailbreaking your iDevice for the emulators.

Finally broke down and updated- it's rebooting now (ipod). It's about a tenth done.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's done!! It's in the reboting process.

Good timing; Apple will release a patch soon that blocks the jailbreak, so be sure not to update after the jailbreak is finished.

I had this attitude for a long time, but I have gotten a lot of use out of a smart phone. Specifically Android. For one, free utility apps, like maps, BBC news, my email, Shazam (figures out a song), IRC and messaging services, Google Translate, my bank, all on my phone, whenever I want, wherever I want. And then...the games. I can read docs, play games, catch up on the news, check my bank statement, and respond to an email all while, for example, waiting on a friend to meet me for coffee. I say it's a pretty solid entertainment/useful device.

I would like one, I just can't seem to bring myself to bother throwing money down on it. Maybe one of these days...
