If we're talking about Japanese movies, has anyone else seen Female Prisoner Scorpion? I was curious to see it after Tarantino said that Scorpion and Lady Snowblood were the big influences on Kill Bill. I haven't seen Snowblood yet, but Scorpion's influence is obvious.

Also, according to wikipedia (take that for what you will), apparently Lucas's first draft of Star Wars was much closer to Hidden Fortress than what ultimately ended up on screen and the Jedi were always intended to be a sci-fi spin on the samurai concept, hence the quasi-Japanese design of Vader's helmet.

You mean Female Convict 701: Black Scorpion? I've seen it, but I've never watched the rest of the series. You might also look into the Stray Cat Rock series if you liked the lead in the Black Scorpion and Lady Snowblood series, Meiko Kaji.

Les Miz?

Okay, that was an awful attempt at a joke, but yikes.

That's the cool thing about the internet. Whatever you're looking for, it's out there somewhere. If it's not officially available, there will be at least one pirate site that has it and if you can't find it, be patient. It'll show up.

SKYFALL

I'm sorry, but let's just call this "Not Bond 3", with a subtitle of "But it becomes Bond in the last 5 minutes, and it's totes groan-worthy."

The worst thing about it had to be the theme song. I really hate Adele for several reasons. I don't care if you pronounce them "fow" and "crumbow", but 'fall' and 'crumble' don't rhyme, honey. Keep that in mind when you're singing.

They present Bond as being old, decrepit, failing his tests, unfit for service............... and then set up the actual Bond world in the last 5 minutes. So he's old and unfit for service... And NOW you want to have the standard Bond universe with M and Moneypenny?

"Tee hee, my name is Eve... MONEYPENNY."

I was hoping this one was better than the last two, but wow. It was awful. Even the villain, played by Javier Bardem who is not a bad actor was laughable. Why not make him Spanish, or Mexican? Maybe he was Spanish or Mexican, I have no idea. But with blonde hair and blue eyes that were clearly contacts? Laughable.

I think the only good thing about this film was Ralph Fiennes, but only because I loved him as Harry in In Bruges. I may be in the minority, feeling this way about SKYFALL, but I don't really care. I thought it was really terrible.

At least Bond didn't get his balls tortured while an awful Madonna song was being played in the background.
I really enjoyed it, but could see why others wouldn't. Some of the stuff with Q was pretty bad, especially "we're in!", and the clusterfudge of a master plan the villain had was basically to go on a train and then walk into a courthouse. And Bond being the actual last name was kind of silly. It's probably been said before, but it's like Bruce visiting the graves of Mr. and Mrs. Batman.
edit* Off to see SNITCH. *fingers crossed*

I'm a big fan of Daniel Craig's Bond and I thought Skyfall was brilliant. The whole story is about questioning whether James Bond the character is still relevant in the modern world or if it's time to put him out to pasture and throughout the film, he does look a bit long in the tooth, but in the last scene, he looks young again. It's a marvelous bit of CGI trickery that really drives the point home. As for it's place in the series, aside from a couple of things (like the introduction of Moneypenny), it seemed to me like it fit more in the original continuity (pre-Casino Royale) than the reboot continuity, as if they suddenly decided to pick up where Pierce Brosnan left off rather than continuing the new storyline they'd set up, effectively making it a second reboot. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.

SNITCH

Sucks. Saying "It's the best film featuring the Rock" isn't a stretch, but that's not saying much. If you like "Action" movies where half the audience would rather leave to answer their mobile phones, this is the movie for you.

Seriously, SNITCH is "check your watch" boring.
