Which System Do I Choose?

Post by Retrodude »

Hey, guys! I need some advice. I'm going down the mountain to the game store tomorrow to trade in a box full of dvds. I'll have about $45 worth of store credit and I want to use it to get either a 3DO (if it's still there) or a PSP and I can't decide which one to get. On the one hand, the 3DO can play burned games so I wouldn't necessarily have to buy any (important for a gamer on a tight budget), but on the other hand, the PSP would give me something new and interesting to collect and most PSP games don't cost that much these days. What do you think I should do?

PSP for sure. Only go for a 3DO if you're really into the novelty of owning a C-list console.

(are PSPs really that cheap nowadays? I'll have to nab one myself soon...)

I'd take the PSP any day of the week over the 3DO. The library is infinitely better on the PSP and will take you decades to play and discover everything that it offers. In addition, the PSP is an excellent emulator device so you can load it up with some classics as a bonus.

PSP definitely.

There are plenty of good games for it.

3d0 is okay, but its more of a gaming collectable.

Take the PSP everywhere you go.

Target is now selling the 3000 series for $99.99 brand new (online at least..so is Amazon), so they're getting fairly cheap either way.

But it's definitely a good time to be buying PSP games. Plenty of good ones at $10 or under new, and many more under $20.

Anyway, I'd vote for PSP as well. It's an outstanding system for JRPGs, if nothing else, and probably the cheaper route for most ports on it.
Factor in cheap PS1 titles on the go via PSN (or streamed from a PS3 around the house), and the possibilities once hacked and it's even more appealing.

3DO is neat n' all, but there are relatively few worthwhile exclusives on it. As mentioned, it's great as a collectible in and of itself, but as a means for playing games it's hard to recommend.

Get the PSP, hack it, grab a 8 or 16 GB memory stick, load it with roms and emulators, and you've got the best gaming purchase you'll ever make.

3DO has some good games but not much, so you will end up finishing the best games very quickly, i sugest the PSP and hack it so you can play allmost any game from the ps1 era and before.

This. I would get the 3DO just cause I don't know when I'd ever come across one again

Logistically speaking I'd opt for the Psp and with the difference in premium (you would pay for the 3DO) you could probably nab yourself a pile of good games(GameStop has the buy 1 get 1 half off) for cheap and still save money (if budget is the issue).

Because really, the 3DO is nice and all but it’s not a console known for its software catalog, let alone build quailty.3DO's are rare but it’s a gamble to buy one because you never know what kind of use/abuse it’s been subjected to.

P.S it's like buying a used first gen Xbox 360, you just don't do it.
