Run DOOM II on Windows & (64-Bit)

Post by captainsugartits »

I got my copy of DOOM II today. I tried playing it but it wouldn't work. I already tried programs such as DOSBox and chocolate doom with no success. Anyone here have any ideas to run it? I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit version.

What happens when you try and run it?

Download one of the improved engines and try that. Oh wait, you tried Chocolate Doom. Perhaps another one?

You can't get it running in DOSBox? Really?

It's incredibly easy.

However, even easier is to use Zandronum, which also serves as a server browser. A few of us here still play online using it.

Maybe not the answer you want to hear, but do you have a 360 or PS3? If so you could get a copy of Doom 3 BFG edish and get Doom 1 and 2 with it.

I haven't used any of the newer Doom engines in quite a while now, but perhaps they have 32 and 64-bit versions. If the engine you tried didn't work, then try another one. There's seems to be enough to choose from.

For what it's worth, I have Windows 7 64 bit and Chocolate Doom works fine for me. Are you trying to run from the actual CD or are you just booting a DOOM wad?

I'm attempting to boot an actual CD Rom of the game. Also, because I'm a lazy bastard, I don't feel like running DOSBox. :P When I open the installer, it says it cannot start due to incompatibility with windows 64 bit.

Well of course it wont run without DOSBox at this point. It's a 16bit application from the early 90s.

It is 100% incompatible with Windows 7 64bit.
