I've been playing DoDonPachi and Super E.D.F.
It's a pretty interesting to be able to choose your weapon type to suit each area. Not a bad game
DDP is just amazing; so glad that I finally got ahold of a copy.
What shmup are you playing now?

Super EDF also adds 4 new weapons in addition to the 4 from the arcade original, which is a pretty solid game in and of itself. Difficulty is just right.

Weird about the config menu. I just assumed there was none (I don't normally do mess with config anyway unless I hate the button layout). Have you played Thunder Force III? Oddly enough, I just posted this last week.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Thunder Spirits on SNES.
Just got it last night, lots of fun so far.
What's weird is that the config menu is hidden. You have to press Select on the title screen and then push Start. Of course the first thing I did is turn rapidfire on and selected Easy mode.

The game shop I got Thunder Spirits from also had Thunder Force III. But it was like $5 more.

Glad you enjoy it. It's a pretty solid port if you have the ability to TATE.foxhound1022 wrote:DDP is just amazing; so glad that I finally got ahold of a copy.

Hey skate, when you have time, would you like to get into some AKS climax mode scoreboard action w/me?skate323k137 wrote:That's a very difficult, but really fun game. Learning the mechanics (especially in slash mode) you can get out of a lot of jams. Learning the "gimmick" is key in most bullet hell shooters. With akai katana slash, using the orbs and katanas to clear bullets can keep you alive and spare your bombs.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Akai Katana.
Fun game, but I don't think I'll ever be sold on this bullet hell thing. Too much going on - it's like a sensory overload. I suck at stuff like this.
I'm a lot better with vertical bullet hell shmups than horizontal. You have to learn your hitbox well. I kind of "zone out" and stare at the screen to see the patterns coming at me. If you start to focus too much on one bullet or pattern, something else will come along and kill you; It certainly takes some getting used to. Shikigami no shiro 2 is a good one to learn on, since the bullets move relatively slow compared with other bullet hell shmups.

Just been playing a bunch of games in an arcade in Kyoto. I think I actually beat the scores that I posted here for Darius Gaiden (got to Stage L boss, Double Dealer) and for Progear (Stage 4 boss, just under 6 million). Next time I should bring a camera with me...

Re: What shmup are you playing now?
For me it's Thunderforce III on Megadrive and Donpachi on PS1!
