How would you differentiate only buying games you "need" as opposed to how you previously collected?
Well theres a slight difference, for instance I like Tomb Raider the 1st one on the sega Saturn especially. But I went ahead and collected all of them on the PS1 as well. I think this is a good example of whats is a need as opposed to just collecting.

I have a strong hunch I may steer clear of the next console market too. Unfortunately the golden age developers are fading away or making games according to trend or market and to make it even worse a new age of developers influenced by todays gaming era will be upcoming making even more COD cloness in the future!
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

What I mean is now I'm more apt to go into a shop (or log onto Amazon, whatever) with a goal in mind - as opposed to just cruising around and dropping cash on impulse buys.

Crusing around and dropping cash on impulse buys is so much fun though!

It's more satisfying to find a good deal on a game I wasn't specifically planning on buying than paying what I expect for a game I planned to get.

I've been trying to do the same thing lately, but I've found myself "needing" too many games, especially when online browsing.

Currently, my only near-future game buying plans is to pick up my Pandora's Tower pre-order when it drops, and to get a red 3DS XL for Luigi's Mansion 2. I've cut myself off from eBay/amazon entirely at this point.

Feels almost like quitting cigarettes again, to be honest. It's rough. A friend at work is even offering me a PSP 3000 w/ Vice City Stories for only $30. The bastard.

Ive been done for a while. I got rid of the DS Lite and the PSP, and sold off the Dreamcast and the Gamecube. Now all I have left are a PS2 and XBOX360, and the Ps2's days may be numbered. Honestly, the only systems I truly regret selling are my SNES and my Genesis.
Current systems: Nintendo Switch and XBox 360,

I almost didn't buy a ps3 this generation. Funny the wife talked me into it. But same as you. Im going to listen to what the ps4 is about but I don't think ill bite next gen. I have hundreds of games I haven't played. And I actually want to replay some of them. Can't do that if I keep adding to the collection. I don't like online passes. DLC bugs me. No used games bug me. 60 dollar games bug me. You know I might do the vita in 2 or 3 years. We shall see. Funny I'm actually not that pumped for a new gen. Hey I finally beat parasite eve 2 yesterday. Yay me.
