What do you guys do when you can't choose what to play?

I'm kind of stuck. I want to clear some of my backlog cause I have 6 months of downtime in my life ahead of me.

But I couldn't choose a single game (cause you know, too many options make it impossible to focus on one). Then I chose to focus on one console's library. I STILL could not make a choice.

So consider this a double thread: When you CAN'T pick what you want to play (first world problem right there), is there some random method you use to pick something?

And of the systems I list in the poll, which should I clear some backlog for? (I am not listing games, but know I have many of the usual suspects from each console's library)

I hope there's not a thread for this . I searched but could not find something like this

Once I tried to choose games scientifically. Like give weight to games depending on when was the last time I played a similar game, how long it lasts, how long it's been since I last played the console it is on.

The problem with that is that I like, like.....3 genres...so that went a bit out the window

The backloggery has a 'Fortune Cookie' feature to randomly pick a game for you. It can be adjusted to only choose certain systems, or only games you've never beaten before and a bunch of other stuff. That's what I tend to use.

For your poll, I chose Mega Drive, because although I'm partial to the SNES, you should be able to relatively get through more MD games than SNES games, assuming you're doing the best on each system.

For me, I like chronological order and then what's highly rated. Trudging through some of the more difficult but highly ranked NES games has been a great reward for me.

I just take a break and then do some soul-searching on what I "feel like" playing based on reviews, what seems like fun at the time, etc. I think watching random gameplay videos really helps because they give a feel for what the game will be like and you can decide whether that's something you want to put up with for a whole game.

Typically this works out for me... I tried picking random games and a lot of the time, even if the game is really good, I just can't get into it because I'm just simply not in the mood for that particular style/genre of gameplay.

The only game that matters.

When I used Backloggery I'd use the Fortune Cookie. That's what drove me to play Arkham Asylum, one of my favorite games of this generation.

Now though, I just sort of play whatever I feel like without thinking about it too hard. If I think about it, I'll waste 40 minutes thinking about what to play then probably give up and browse reddit.

My go-to games right now are Counter Strike and iRacing when I'm not sure what else to play.

I usually just play WoW, or Minecraft when i dont feel like playing my backlog, which is most of the time.

Been focusing mostly on DS and 3DS games though when i do feel like playing a console games.
