I get these small cysts/pimples/ingrown hairs on my leg from time to time. I normally just sterilize a safety pin, and get em out myself. Last week I found that I had a big one that wasn't cooperating.
Finally on Thursday, I call the Dr for an appt and they say they can 'see me' today, but wont schedule the lancing til next week. WTF, so i call another Dr. I go in, and the guy says he can get it, no big. He numbs me up, and stabs me. A tiny bit of gunk comes out, but that's it. He even acknowledges this and says "hmm... i thought more would come out." His nurse asks if hes gonna run a culture and he says "nah, its fine." Those are his words. "nah, its fine." He gives me some antibiotic that for the next couple of days does absolutely nothing.
Anyway, on Friday at work my leg is on fucking fire. I have a fever and its awful. Im still taking that same antibiotic, but nothings changing. So I call the clinic and there are no openings on Friday, but there IS one on Saturday w another Doc. I go in and this Dr immediately says "oh wow, this does NOT look good.." and asks if the previous Dr did a culture. When she hears no, she shakes her head and says "OK, well we cant do a culture now because those antibiotics you've been taking will prevent the bacteria from growing in a culture" or something like that. She says that it's all hard congealed pus in there, where the other (apparently retarded in the head) Dr thought it was just 'swelling.' She prescribes a much stronger antibiotic, and tells me that it's most likely MRSA judging from her experience. They also gave me a shot of the same antibiotic in my ass to sort of jumpstart the bacteria's murder. Also she said to use a warm compress and massage the area to break up the shit in my leg to help the antibiotic do it's job better.
She told me that if the fever (which had been at a constant 100/101) didn't subside or the swelling didn't subside by today, I have to go to the ER. Thankfully, both have subsided. And now stuff is coming out of my leg. It's really gross.
So.. my leg. Or, fun with MRSA.

The initial lancing was completely underwhelming. The wife took the vid, but seriously, nothing came out. It was like popping a standard pimple. Plus, its not the most flattering shot of my thigh and crotch. I wanted to see it, but like I said, it was worthless.Hazerd wrote:I demand a Video, post it to youtube, youll score mega views!
This new thing though... i dont know if it will get a lancing, or if it's supposed to just go away. I guess I'll find out this week.

MRSA is some nasty stuff, I used to see it rather frequently when I worked in a jail. Most of the times the nurses would apply hot compresses and keep squeezing until they got what they called the "core" out of it. Rather disgusting, especially when some left a hole big enough to pack gauze in. Definitely keep an eye on things, though it sounds like you don't have anything to worry about now.

MSRA... better known as Staph... can kill you if left untreated. It is nothing to mess with. Hope you get better dude.

I seem to be healing. The cutoff was today to decide whether to go into the hospital or not. I called the clinic I went to in order to ask the Dr what to do.
Apparently the area is now leaking a yellowish liquid, and spotting with blood but very lightly. The Dr drew a circle on my leg to show the infected area, and it's clearly shrunk. I've been doing the warm compress, not like clockwork, but definitely several times a day. So this morn, I called the clinic and apparently what's going on is exactly what needs to be happening. So the nurse (dr wasn't available) says it's doing great from my description, and keep doing what I'm doing.
Fast forward 2 or 3 warm compresses later and I start getting gross 'grey' blood when I'm massaging. It's effing WORKING! Hate to see a pus/blood mixture, but that's a good sign. I haven't gotten rid of it, of course, but it's definitely 'melting' what's in there and helping me get rid of it.
Also, I'm not convinced I have MRSA after all. I could be wrong, of course but after some image searches, and hearing from another MRSA patient and seeing his pictures - my infection looks *nothing* like his. Mine is a little 'mountain', while the images he showed me (and some google brought up) show MRSA creating a pit of sorts. Almost like flesh eating bacteria!
Regardless, I'm keeping it dry/clean and taking my meds and doing the warm compresses. I hope to have this thing knocked out soon enough.

^And hopefully in with the good! It seems that whenever I read your stories, it's a series of bad luck. Let's hope that changes for the better, along with your leg!
Re: So.. my leg. Or, fun with MRSA.
lol thanks man. I guess you're right, I usually do end up posting bad news, but I don't mean to make my life sound like a sob story, lol! I actually have a pretty good life. I've got an amazing wife, a meh job that isn't a terrible gig, (its actually quite cushy) a great family and (not a ton but) plenty of great friends. I guess I tend to only post about the bad stuff, but I hadn't noticed, ha.
As for the leg, I am doing better. Thanks!
