$20 less for not being able to access OUYA exclusives and use a controller that looks like it could be improved by slapping a 360 D-Pad on it? What a deal!

Frankly, looks cheap and not all that great. Even less powerful than the Ouya...

Yeah, feel like that is just an attempt to grab a piece of the pie that Ouya baked. If they've been developing that since before Ouya, then ignore that, but I don't see much that makes it superior. True, Ouya games will have to be ported by Devs, you can't just nab stuff in the existing Google Play store (to my knowledge) but Devs would have to develop games for that controller in mind, which is already one of the problems with all the little add-on controllers that have come out for iphone and android devices, too much work for too few players.
The Ouya creating its own eco-system and providing a standardized system is what makes it appealing.

If you're bored and have nothing better than paint drying to watch, you can watch the guys behind Airmech port their game to Ouya on livestream.

I'll be at a game development meetup on tuesday, and Julie Uhrman will be there, so if anyone has any pressing questions, I'll see if I can get a chance to ask them.

So the big OUYA news is that they plan to release a new system every year, similar to the mobile phone market. As they figure out better ways to manufacture or get more power into it, they'll do so. The software will work like steam though and carry to whatever version console you have.

With how fast that market is moving, it makes a lot of sense. They'd probably just release a new one per Tegra revision.retrosportsgamer wrote:So the big OUYA news is that they plan to release a new system every year, similar to the mobile phone market. You know, I'd complain about that on just about any other system. Considering the Ouya will sell for $99 though, a yearly upgrade wouldn't be too bad. That's cheaper than two major release games on other consoles. As long as you can keep a step behind (upgrade every 2 years) I'll probably embrace the idea.
The console/pc market is going to get very interesting over the next few years.

Although it'd probably make more sense to simply allow people to buy upgrade parts instead of buying a whole new console. Kinda like how the do with desktop PCs. But allow people to buy OUYAs with the upgrades already installed, and maybe a recycling program so people won't just toss the old parts in the trash.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:You know, I'd complain about that on just about any other system. While I'd rather see a 2 year cycle, this will be alright. Assuming that your controller will carry over to the next system.
