Re: No Used Games On Xbox 3
If this is true, then Nintendo will likely come out on top the next-generation. Plenty of people on a budget pretty much only buy used, that's me and half the customers at GameStop.

Always online doesn't really bother me unless they make the next Xbox where a Gold subscription is required to play the system.

I really hope this turns out to be false. Always online and no 2nd hand sales sounds awful.

I don't like it for collecting sake. But if you own a mid ranged gaming pc, why bother with these consoles?
Game borrowing doesn't affect me. I don't think I've borrowed or lent out any games in the last 10 years. If they offer up sales similar to steam then that wouldn't be so bad.
It doesn't seem smart to reduce your customer base like this though.

Exclusives. There's plenty on PS3 that I can't get for my PC, and 360 has Halo and Gears.Jmustang1968 wrote:I don't like it for collecting sake. But if you own a mid ranged gaming pc, why bother with these consoles?

Re: No Used Games On Xbox 3
What bothers me about this is the limited timeframe it gives people to play games. I'm perpetually at least 5 years behind the times with gaming. I hate the idea that, at the end of the system's lifespan, ALL SUPPORT WILL BE REMOVED and the console will become a useless brick (at the end of "Xbox Live for Xbox 720" or whatever, will Microsoft keep supporting titles? Forever? FOREVER-EVER?). Also, with the lack of being able to play used-games, there won't be any opportunity for some games once the supply of new titles dries up.
Some companies will notice the demand and print more, but surely not every game will get that treatment.
BAH!
(I'm also assuming that the "no used games/always online" aspect is still a rumor and may end up being TOTALLY FALSE.)

I'm somewhat surprised this doesn't bother more people. It'll have pretty bad implications for future retrogamers won't it? Or am I missing something?
I don't lend or borrow games, but I do take them to friends houses occasionally. I don't want to drag the whole console over, which would be required with this system as I understand it.Jmustang1968 wrote:Game borrowing doesn't affect me. Re: No Used Games On Xbox 3
I can accept no used games. Its obnoxious, but I can accept it.
What bugs me is as Nemoide said, the time limit imposed by an always online system.
10 years from now I'll be able to pop a disc in to my 360 and play it, even though Xbox live support for it will certainly be gone. Always online for the new Xbox will make that impossible whenever the system's life cycle ends down the line. Very frustrating.
I'll hold out hope that this won't come true, but I expect I'll be disappointed.

I think we're going to see retrogaming itself looking very different in 10 years or so. When all these XBLA/PSN titles from this gen become "retro" there's going to be a lot more warez/roms hardware mods/hacks involved in the scene to play/access these titles. I think that "side" of the culture will be much more tolerated as a result... Alternately/concurrently, we might also see more current XBLA/PSN games officially rereleased to meet the demand for "retro" experiences.DinnerX wrote:I'm somewhat surprised this doesn't bother more people. In other words, there's already a ton of stuff that can't be collected, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the next gen take that next step and make MOST releases digital only...
but retrogaming will survive.
