Customising my Dreamcast, any tips?

Post by drewsie »

Got my used DC off ebay. It's a bit dis-coloured and could do with freshening up. I've tried a few household cleaners but can't seem to get it back to it's original colour.

So, I was thinking of giving the DC's shell a lick of paint. Anybody had a go at this? what sort of paint is it best to go for?

Any help would be great :)

Use Krylon Fusion for the paintjob. I recommend using any color other than black if you have a white Dreamcast since the logo will stand out against the black.

Another thing is that many online guides say to remove the DC swirl badge. The method I used was placing a piece of masking tape over the logo and use an exacto knife to cut to the right shape. This however might be a problem since I used black paint on a Sega Sprots Dreamcast (already black) so any mistakes would be hard to see, but white under other colors would stick out bad of you mess it up.

Spray many light coats, do not spray liberally.

I reccommend red or orange.

One alternative is to buy a new custom plastic case for the system alltogether. I saw one once that was kind of a translucent smoke color, so you could see inside of it. Painting it would be a cheaper alternative, though.
