Re: blahblahblah next gen blah blah blah PS4 blah blah blah
What are you babbling about? I mean if you want to have your own console generation timeline that differs from the accepted norm, then its probably best to keep it to your. No empathy or understanding will be gained from the vast cold world of the net. Also the rev was a terrible drummer.
Re: blahblahblah next gen blah blah blah PS4 blah blah blah
There is logic behind mine. Think of my list as the Old English system and the Mainstream list as the Metric system. The Old English system makes no sense but people still use it anyway.AppleQueso wrote:The "mainstream" generation list is based on relevance and release windows. Your generation list is based on random piles of arbitrary exceptions.
There is a method to my madness. I grouped everything together based on closest performance. I almost placed the PC Engine with the golden era AND Silver Era. But that would further complicate my timeline. The PC Engine might be a Dreamcast case where it's it's own thing and serves as a bridge from one generation to the next.
If I split things into Blocky Bleeps and Bloops, Sprites, 3d and HD...the list would be an even bigger mess.

Why?TheRev wrote:Well I never like the Main stream 1st generation - 6th. That's why I started to develop my own in hopes some how some way others might accept it.
It honestly looks contrived, like you haven't put any thought into it, or kept it consistent, as evidenced by lumping together the 2600 with the 7800, the Neo Geo with the PC Engine. My timeline probably looks like the Mainstream one until the Dreamcast, Wii and Wii U came along to screw it up.
I don't think it's impossible to divide them up into larger eras, but it seems you're confusing eras with generations.

I'm sort of just pulling it all out of my ass now. The Rev's greco-roman timeline of Video game Eras is still a work in progress.o.pwuaioc wrote:Why?TheRev wrote:Well I never like the Main stream 1st generation - 6th. I have the Book The Encyclopedia of Game Machines. It's Grouping is Simular to mine.
Well Similar in that it's closer to my timeline than the Mainstream one.

Aside from not making a lot of sense it's just so... pointless.
What's the problem you have with the "mainstream" numbering anyway? Is this whole thing just so you can buy a Wii U and still say "I'm skipping this next gen!"

To my credit I did warn you my reasoning may not make sense to you or anyone but me.
Give me some time to develop it.

I'd venture that the US library of Vita games at the one year mark of the system is far stronger than the US library of PSP games at year one of that system.Arbitern1 wrote:VITA SUXXORS! No really, im just not interested in paying 250$ for a handheld with a small library of games and could very well be 99$ in two years if sony does not nut up. I had the same problem with the psp when it first came out. Why the fuck would I want to play a crippled console port on a handheld. I don't. And since allot of the best games for it are already on consoles or just spinoffs of console games, what is the point? At least the psp had some awesome RPG support.o.pwuaioc wrote:It's clearly not everyone. If you're counting the small handful of people on this forum, I've seen literally every console bashed here. Some people don't care for the Master System, some shrug their shoulders at the Genesis, the N64 had a whole thread necessary to defend itself, the Dreamcast regularly gets shot down, the Xbox and 360 and PS3 and Wii and Wii U and 3DS all are derided here by some, or were at some point. The slow start for the Vita is nothing different. People are too damn demanding. FFS, get a life. There's a huge library of unplayed games numbering in the thousands. Anyone who complains that the Vita doesn't have very many good games yet clearly have amnesia.BoringSupreez wrote:Really, if you have to convince everyone who doesn't own your system that it doesn't suck, you've already lost. This is not a good position for Sony to market from.
Here's a list (modified from Wikipedia) of every game released on PSP in its first year of availability that was (simultaneously or eventually) released in North America:
Here's the list of Vita games released since it's JPN debut. Obviously not all of these will make North America, but something like 90% of the PSP's first year titles did and a similar percentage for the Vita doesn't seem unreasonable.
Sony has always been about the long game. If the Vita turns out to be even half as solid as the PSP, or has titles produced for it half as long (remember, we're still getting PSP titles), then I think it would be a worthy addition to any gamer's collection. But can we stop saying it has no future or that it has no games? Because based on both historical precedent and statistical proof neither argument can really be substantiated...
Re: blahblahblah next gen blah blah blah PS4 blah blah blah
For the first 2 years I owned my psp, I only owned some shitty atv game. Psp and the vita both have had allot of problems with games. Aside from the oodles of RPGs that came out later in the psps lifespan I would have called it a waste of money. Sony just needs to give up. Forfeit the market to Nintendo. The market is over saturated for handheld devices. Nintendo has a much stronger line up with games with the 3DS and has really taken off. The PS vita is really going to struggle to maintain developer support. After all, just like psp games released in the last 3 years it was around, games will be 20$ in two or three months. Persuading people to buy a 250$ portable right now is not going to work now. This console needs a price drop or it will sink. I'll buy it in the 99$ bargain bins 3 years from now when it's accumulated more than 10 great exclusives. Fuck Sony. No company should be able to fuck stuff up as badly as the vita release/ps3 release and come back ok. I just don't understand it. I guess that's what deep pockets allow you to do.

Console wise, yes. I'll be a PC gamer next gen.TheRev wrote: Anybody else thinking of skipping the Next Gen entirely?

Always a good starting point for long winded posts that you admit you are trying to convince people with...TheRev wrote: I'm sort of just pulling it all out of my ass now.
