Finally my first chance to play through Ocarina Of Time.

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

So, I've always wanted to actually dig into this game, but haven't ever managed to get around to it. I've owned a copy of it in some form for years but only now am I getting down to the nitty-gritty.

Long story short, while it's fun it's also infuriating. The camera is glitchy, Z-Targeting is wonky at best, Navi sucks, and controlling Epona in any sort of closed or small space is maddeningly frustrating. Don't get me started on the water dungeon either.....(pause, unpause, rinse, repeat, forever).

It's not a bad game by any means, but coming into this as a fresh face to Ocarina I can't say it really deserves all the praise it gets from modern day publications. By no means is it a perfect game, or even the best Zelda, but it's place as the first 3D entry to the series and the expansive detailed world it crafted are what I know gave it such a high reputation.

In the end though, given a truly blind critical eye, I can say that while I'm not done with the game yet I may not end up agreeing with or giving it the critical regard which the game has constantly been bestowed.

So, can anyone here share their thoughts and opinions on how Ocarina has aged, or feels comparatively to you from the first time you played it?

P.S. - I am playing it on original N64 hardware, not the 3DS which was a far more polished remake from what I've heard.

Stick with it. As much as I ranted on it above the game is a lot of fun, and can also be torn apart at the seams and manipulated in impossible ways thanks to all sorts of cool glitches.

Is it a 10/10, no, not by today's standards; but it is easily a solid 7-8.5/10 (depending on what your experience is).

Yeah i recommend to anyone new to zelda to play the 3ds version, the n64 polygons unfortunately have not aged well. I really wish they would put the 3ds version on the wii/wii u

I honestly love the way N64 and 32-bit/128-bit games look. It's what a 3D game should look like, and fits with my mental picture of it when I was a kid.

You're right, it's an 11/10 game.

I go back to it a lot. Aged well to me.

Despite many tries I cannot get into this game.

Is it possible to like a 3D Zelda game and not also like Ocarina of Time?

Some fans certainly prefer the others over OoT, but they all play very much the same. Worth giving others a shot, but it could go either way for you.
