MMV should fit in there somewhere.

Let's not pretend that the boss weapons are good in any Mega Man game besides 9. Except for that they vary from adequate to thoroughly useless.

I still think that this is one of the coolest things in MMX. My guess is that Capcom just skimped on it because it was harder to do.

X hands down, way better in every way than the original.

I think they just replaced the idea with having the optional bosses appear in certain stages based on the order that you played them

Dr Wily shows up in some of Zero's Cut Scenes in X4
Yeah, but those are flashbacks

Metal Blades.

How can you rank X4 over X2 & X3? The jump physics in X4 are terrible.

The Storm Tornado is Mega Man X's Metal Blade. Probably the best Weapon in the entire X series.
True, the tornado is X's strongest weapon. To me, the difference is that, while Storm Tornado is strongest, I still found myself using heat-seekers on Vile/Boomer, the flame attack on the madrill midboss and dozers in the armadillo stage, etc. Whereas in MM2, I basically stuck to the MM weapon the entire game.

Don't get me wrong, I love both games. I just think the weapons in X (and X2) are at least as good as in the original series. I didn't find them lacking.

As for the original question, I have a hard time choosing. X is definitely a better action game, and it feels like I have much better control of X. However, the original series has the platforming and NES-challenge. While I don't feel as "in control" in the originals, I think that, like Castlevania, the limited controls are a part of the game's awesomeness.

I'll just have to play more Mega Man and try to figure it out!

Metal Blades.
 I guess I should have said "well designed". The Metal Blades are very useful, but not very well designed.

I can't really say which series I prefer overall, but I can pretty easily say I go back to the originals way more than the X games. For me they are more timeless and I don't think I'll ever tire of them. Obviously stuff like visual and audio quality is superior in X, but that's a given.

I think part of it is that with Mega Man, I'm just playing for fun, nothing else really. I boot up a game from the original series, pick a level, play. With X, it feels like more of a procedure. There's always exposition, dialogue, hidden stuff everywhere, rankings, etc. Although I certainly enjoy that kind of thing, with Mega Man I'd rather just toss it in and play.

Also the original timeline games mostly maintain a level of consistent quality all the way up to the latest PSN release. X5 pretty much kills the X series (many don't like X4 very much either), and anything after X6 is just unplayable. With the original timeline games, you've got ~10 good games (7, 8, and 10 up in the air), not counting Mega Man & Bass.
