A few years ago, everyone would have been listing Sonic as one of the franchises they want dead. It's nice to see things have changed in that respect.

I've only been playing video games since I can remember. I must not have been playing long enough...Hazerd wrote:When you grow up with Video games and its PART of who you are, you tend to care what direction a franchise goes.AppleQueso wrote:I think some of you guys are taking some of these franchises way too seriously

I know some hardcore pokemon fanatics who would flip out at the battle system being called "strategy-free"

Nintendo needs to do what Disney has been doing for years -- take some of those tired old dogs out behind the shed and lock them in the "vault". The one franchise that comes to mind more than any other is the Zelda series. It's become a hollow shell of what it once was, and yet the fanbase gets MORE fervent with each pathetic entry to the series. We've gone from an open world strategically based around the items we find in the dungeons to a linear corridor romp full of convoluted story, bland NPCs and annoying sidekicks that detract from the gameplay experience.
Having lived through Zelda literally from the beginning until now, I'd say it's regressing, not progressing -- and that's actually pretty sad given how far we've come.
Beyond picking out specific examples, I'm fairly burned out on franchise-itis in general. I'd love to see GAMERS take more risk on new IPs and ideas -- there's plenty of them out there. It's the people buying Call of Duty 27 in droves that keep this cycle going...

Its all in good fun. I said it in a dramatic way to be funny but with the assumtion that everyone would agree that the bottom line is there is a different gaming franchise for everyone but some some seem to be exacerbated and out of original ideas. What one person loves another person may be tired of.AppleQueso wrote:I think some of you guys are taking some of these franchises way too seriously
For example I still love the Halo series but I know there are plenty of people who woud have it go away forever and wouldn't miss it. I just think it's interesting to hear what others are tired of or think should cut out their current gen shenanigans. No hard feelings needed.

In defence of call of duty, the Zelda games never change aside from graphics (unless you count links crossbow training) the formula is always the same. Some game franchises should never change, there are tons of new games out there innovating. I'm not sure how i would feel if zelda turned into a FPS or a cart racer, if its not broke don't fix it. Majoras mask is the most innovative zelda game there was and it was also was one of the least popular.
