Its 2013 there must be a better site that has more than text guides. One with pictures and maps, or better still full scans of their official game guides.

I really like Wikicheats for modern stuff. They often have maps, videos, etc for games.
Unless your talking retro games, then yes gamefaqs is still the best bet.

Many games have wiki sites devoted to them that are sometimes even more helpful than gamefaqs. You can also pick up great gaming tips from achievement/trophy site forums

youtube has guides up for a ton of games. You might have to resort to something like gamefaqs for some games, but youtube has video playthroughs for a ridiculous amount of stuff these days.

For RPGs, check out RPG Classics. Many classic 8/16/32 bit RPGs are covered and generally pictures and maps are included.
StrategyWiki is excellent, though some walkthroughs are incomplete. I used the site as a refresher last time I played Chrono Trigger.
For maps, check out VGMaps. Fantasy Anime also has some great maps, but only for certain specific games.
GameFAQs is still the best site for many, many older and obscure games. For instance, I'm playing Cosmic Fantasy 2 right now and GameFAQs is the best resource I've found.

Are there alternatives? Yes. Better alternatives? No.

IGN has Game Guides with pics. Sometimes when I find a good one, I will copy and paste all the pages into a single local HTML file. Takes time extracting all the Text, JPGs and getting rid of the Java Script ads, but once done a handy local reference.
I really like game Faqs for the txt very quick loading simplicity. So easy to copy paste for future local reference. The local txt file can easily be customized to suit personal tastes as new information is discovered and even adding pictures.

The ones they made themselves, anyway. A lot (most, really) of their user-submitted guides are also on Gamefaqs, thanks to Gamefaqs and IGN being affiliated in the past.CRTGAMER wrote:IGN has Game Guides with pics.

I think for individual games you can find better resources, but GameFAQs is the most consistent across all games.

i just think it would be really cool if someone started a project like the cover project and started archiving all the old strategy guides and made them available for viewing on the ipad or any other tablet. If only i had the time and ability to create a website i would start it myself, i have tons of old strategy guides
