I think some of them might only be in Tournament Edition though.

Yup, but not NBA JAM which I was referring to.

Any particular reason you prefer the vanilla version over Tournament Edition?

I'll revisit TE so I can play as 2/3rd's of the B-Boys, but I don't see anything vanilla about the original. Tweaks don't necessarily mean improvements and the original is always a go to when I have friends over.

College Slam is a lot of fun, but I don't think it's better than NBA JAM either. Maybe the AI is less cheap in NBA JAM over TE...I don't know. But when going head to head with a pal, I prefer the original.

I too prefer the original, on the Genesis. But I love them all.

Didn't mean "vanilla" as an insult to the game. I wasn't really aware that T.E. did anything different from the normal game, I thought it was just expanding the roster and some new features.

I'm pretty crappy at NBA Jam, but it's one of those games that's always great fun.

The arcade version is also on the small list of Arcade Cabinets I plan to own someday.

Still have my original Nba Jam, with the same record and log in. My record is ridiculous, but a new friend of mine broke my 112-0 streak maybe a year or two ago. Guy lets me run it up then starts raining 3's at the last minute. He's a pro.

Of the three I own (Genesis, SNES, Sega CD) I prefer the Genesis version by far.

That said, I've never played Tournament Edition or any of the 7th gen versions.

Me too.

That may be because of the fact that the sound on my Sega CD port doesn't "work". A shame.

This thread inspired me to order the 32X version via eBay.

I liked it on the Saturn...

... but ever since I got a cabinet that happened to have the original version with MK characters on it, I haven't looked back.
