My argument was about the relative coverage more than anything.
I don't really care for ESPN's sports coverage anymore, and I don't find any of those reports to be worth anything. We know that this Tuisosopo kid is a chronic liar and prides himself in it. Why would I believe him AT ALL about ANYTHING? T'eo continued to discuss his "girlfriend" and her death even after he learned she was fake. He's a liar.

That's not fair. Did he get absolute confirmation that she wasn't real on that date, or was it just starting to come to light?

The link says that Notre Dame reported that was the date he learned she wasn't dead or ever real. Deadspin's original full story breaking the case is a long read but has a lot of timeline details that are, frankly, suspicious.

Fair. This might have been a little less jarring, though.

So you're saying that even if all the other details from behind the scenes, as they've been talked about in the last couple days, were true, then he would still be a liar if he wanted to choose a better time to reveal the truth of the matter, or if he were embarrassed about the nature of the relationship?

Also, there were two people, completely unrelated to Te'o, essentially corroborating his story in that first ESPN story.

Here's the dead spin article's author later: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzZbAVZk2jw

I sort of think he was in on it from the get go and that him and the kid that supposedly "catfish'ed" him might have a same-sex romance that would be frowned on in every circle T'eo travels in. But that's just a hunch...

From what we actually know, I think that his insistence on talking about this fake woman at all through the period of Heisman voting and the BCS game is deplorable. Since even his school says he learned about it on the 6th - a story just confirmed (and that's if he wasn't in on it from the start, of course) then he should have immediately gone public.

I really think this is getting blown out of proportion, but it seems like most people would be angry with him regardless of whether or not his story is true, just because they don't agree with exactly how he handled it.

I don't particularly think he would be a liar for not knowing exactly how he wanted to deal with it. Hell, if all of it were true, and I were him, I'd want to take it to my grave. Just sayin'. I don't think that college athletes should be excused from wrong-doing, but there's definitely too much celebrity placed on them now with all the extreme money tied to college football. I don't really feel the same accountability should be demanded of a typical college student as say, the President of the United States, or a multi-national corporate CEO.

I read the Dead Spin article first, so I know what it says. Notre Dame also said that they investigated as soon as Te'o mentioned it. Even if Te'o found out something, that doesn't mean he was 100% sure, or that being sure, he wasn't ready to blow open an investigative case.

I'm not defending him, I'm just saying let's wait for all the facts to come out before we jump to a guilty verdict.

Agreed, I'm not trying to do much more than state hunches.

i think he may have been duped in the beginning, found out then kept adding to the story after the media ran with it associating this image of him. honestly, i think the whole story helped with a few heisman votes. one thing i haven't figured out is he said he met her at a stanford game, so he had to have lied about that.

and the next ray lewis? he got exposed as overrated to me after the bama game. dude's still wiping lacey's footprints off himself. that being said, my cowboys will prolly draft him in the first round. :(

 : Bought the hard top, took it to the paint shop, and should have it back in about 12 days all purdy and color matched!

 : My wallet sure took a beating. Like seriously, the thing is in a corner, empty and crying.

:) It's worth it to me.
