What was the last movie you've seen?

I so not see a lot of new movies; so, I cannot judge the performances in most of this year's nominees. That said, I do see a lot of movies, and Jack Black's performance in Bernie was abslutely incredible, and you should see it if you have not done so already.

In any event, I think that "Lincoln" is a shoe-in for pretty much every major category this year. The blue-hairs on my local public radio station will not stop going on and on about how great it is, and - as a general rule - the best "grandma-friendly" movie always sweeps the major categories (which is probably why I find the Oscars so dull...).

Yeah, they also LOVE their biopics. Want to get an Oscar? Make a biopic. Hate Oscars? Make anything related to horror.

In fairness, the Oscars are primarily about the best acting performances and innovations in all aspects of film production. They are largely selected by people in the industry who have previously won Oscars and who know the most about the process of film making and what represents excellence. Horror, as a genre, is generally not about these things so much as pleasing the audience and fulfilling genre expectations.

That said, some horror films have won Oscars: http://www.moviesonline.ca/2012/02/14-o ... or-movies/

awarded to people who sell movies and don't come off as 100% jerk wads and use the platform to sell their movie be it in theater or retail.

Do the Oscars get it right? Yup. Do they miss? Yup. Do some people win because they've previously been snubbed? Yup.

I think the committee does a damned good job at their nominations. but the Oscar is not an award for acting, rather an award for achievement, which I'm fine with.

But Waltz was awesome. He deserves best supporting.

Hey! As long as he didn't like Gummo or The Tree Of Life then it's fine.
