What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
So far, I'm three films short of my one-film-a-day plan. That's 15 films at the moment, and it's the 18th.

havent seen the new version of Le Mis, but I could watch 2 hours of Anne Hathaway standing in front of a camera and doing nothing.MrPopo wrote: If she doesn't win best supporting it will be a travesty. Hollywood also needs to stop wasting her in non-singing roles.
And longer if shes naked.

As I told noise via PM:MrPopo wrote:If she doesn't win best supporting it will be a travesty. Chills.
In other words, even though I knew this sad bit was coming and had mentally prepared for it, the performance of the song was just mesmerizing and got to jaded old me. Kudos to Hooper, also, for knowing exactly how to film that scene.Hathaway is fan-fucking-tastic though. Even having "steeled myself" for the song (which usually makes me melancholy anyway) I still found myself getting giant fucking lumps in my throat. Bitch.
The downside is that everything else in the film feels like a bit of a letdown, even though it is all excellent. It peaked too early.

I had the same reaction to that scene. The only other movie scene that can do that to me is the scene at the end of Schindler's List when Oscar Schindler has a breakdown saying "I could have got more".dsheinem wrote:As I told noise via PM:

Waltz deserves best supporting.

You and I could cry at movies together. That is the only "shit that's a tearMrPopo wrote:I had the same reaction to that scene. So far I agree, but still have to see some of the others.Luke wrote:Waltz deserves best supporting.

Phoenix deserves best actor, Waltz best supporting. It shouldn't go any other way. Really, it shouldn't.
Going to watch the supposedly "not edited and moved back for more Tatum and to add 3D" GI JOE tomorrow. The trailer looked like a huge improvement from the first film, but for all I know the animated movie will remain my favorite GI Joe movie.
I need to watch TRANSFORMERS and GI JOE (both animated) back to back one day.

Have you seen Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln, or Flight? The first two are on my weekend to do list...along with Beasts of the Southern Wild.Luke wrote:

I feel like Life of Pi and Amour are likely not going to get seen this week - or at all if they don't get a good release before the Oscars as they are out of theaters locally.

Yes. yes, and yes. Go see BEASTS first; it will knock your socks off. Playbook won't, but I'm not saying it isn't a great film.
Lee Jones steals the show in Lincoln, Lewis is second fiddle. FLIGHT? If there is an award for "Impersonating Ice Cube's Dad in FRIDAY" Washington is a shoe-in. But no, his performance isn't even worth an Oscar nod. I'm not kidding when I say a bottle has the best performance in the movie.
