Actually could get- Sega CD/CDX
Big goal for the year i doubt i will acheive- Virtual Boy
CDX is hella expensive. And Sega CD is more expensive than NES, SNES and 2600, around the same as a Jaguar.
My advice would be that you forget about Virtual Boy. The idea is intriguing but the chances are that you'll hardly play it. I've played mine for about 1 hour or so, it's hard to find a good position for playing it and it makes your eyes really sore. Not sure if other people here have the same problem but a plastic part on front of the system presses against my nose while I play it unless I'm in perfect position (and when I'm in that position, my neck cramps). And that thing doesn't really have any good games on it (maybe Jack Bros and that japanese horror/shooter game but both are very rare and expensive).
But then again you can emulate NES and SNES games on your computer really easily while the Virtual Boy is an unique gameplay experience, so don't be discouraged if that's what you really want to go for

For the most part stuff that gives you bragging rights/is obscure and neat just wont give nearly as much bang for your back (if any) as the boring old regular systems every one knows of.
