Re: Motion sickness with first-person games
I had a friend at school that couldn't play Quake for more than 5 minutes.

Just a random thought; are you all using LCD screens? Might have to do with the motion blurring.

The typical cause of motion sickness in games is explained nicely in the videos RyaNtheSlayA posted.dogman91 wrote:Just a random thought; are you all using LCD screens? Might have to do with the motion blurring.
While I know some people do complain about motion blur in games, I think it's mostly directed at deliberately rendered motion blur versus what gets introduced due to using an LCD. Usually, with motion blur effect, the center of the screen stays clear, and the edges get blurred to give the illusion of speed. Maybe that serves to close the player's view into the center of the screen and introduce a similar problem to having too narrow a field of view in general.

Same with me. I think for me the way the gun kinda sways back and forth in Doom makes me feel queezy after about 5 minutes, even when watching a Youtube video of it. Modern FPS's aren't as bad for me but eventually I start to feel a bit sick.FerretGamer wrote:I mostly get that with older FPS games like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, etc. I don't have that problem with modern FPS.
Not a big FPS fan so no big loss.

Re: Motion sickness with first-person games
I actually only get this with 3D platformers. I'm fine with every other 3D game but if I spend enough time trying to tackle a platforming challenge in three-dimensions I start feeling seasick.
Maybe it's all the camera tilting and stuff when you're jumping around, I don't know. I was trying to figure out why I never really cared for the genre and I think this may be a contributing factor.
Oddly enough I never had a problem with FPS games.

Re: Motion sickness with first-person games
All first-person games make me motion sick. I've played on pretty much every possible set up, from CRT to LCD; at a computer desk with the monitor nearby and on a sofa about 4 feet from the TV; new games and older games. All of them make me naseous and dizzy. I also get car sick and motion sickness on rough plane trips.
Anyway, I'm lukcy because I don;t really like first-person games.
