It's a side-scroll Firepower 2000! I believe they were inspired by this game. Everything is here, including the special shields! You choose either one. Once again I gotta give it to the Jeep, even though you gotta do a LOT of jumping. It got an NES port, and it was pretty good!

Firepower 2000 was originally called 'Super SWIV'.

The developers who ported Silkworm to home computers decided to release an unofficial follow-up called SWIV, which was released for Amiga, Atari ST, Spectrum, Amstrad and C64. Slightly different versions were released for the SNES (Super SWIV, or Firepower 2000 in the US) and the Megadrive (Mega SWIV). It seems there was also a PC game called SWIV 3D.

I beat the C64 SWIV in one credit back in the day. Also played the Amiga version a fair bit. I've tried the SNES and Megadrive games on emulators more recently, but I didn't really get into them. I guess my taste in shmups has changed a bit since the C64 days...

Just been playing Dangun Feveron's 3-minute Time Attack mode, which I guess I must have heard about before (maybe several years ago) but didn't really see the attraction of it at the time, because I hadn't discovered the awesomeness of 'Caravan' shooters. (To unlock you just hold down A+B then press start.)

After a few attempts, I'm managing to survive pretty well (you get infinite lives anyway) - best score is about 1.4 million so far. The world record is something like 2.5 million. Here's a vid of a 2.2 million run (available in HD):

Just picked up Under Defeat: Deluxe Edition . Didn't realize the Jp version had dlc (this claims to have all patches and dlc). Intriguing.

Interesting... so were these games developed in the West? I've never been able to find info... or beat the game to see the credits.

Don't a lot of the folks here greatly dislike Firepower 2000? I thought it was a generally unpopular game.

No. It kicks ass. One of the best shmups on the SNES. Ask harper about it sometime.

yeah I think it was an extra ship for one thing... I'm really only interested in the US PS3 version for the bonus soundtrack CD now. I sold my JPN copy.

I sure haven't seen that! It gets talked about a lot as being good. As soon as I saw it was like Silkworm, I rented it and eventually bought it.

When I got my new TV, I hooked up the SNES to it, and I can still 1cc it with the Jeep. It never gets old :)

I already spoke about the avatar they're using and how it's the more difficult of the 2 vehicles to use
