Did I mention the cork board? My wife collected tons of wine corks and created a framed cork board that I just adore. Buddy went to the board, pointed out each cork and judged each wine. "Shit, shit, cheap, shit, cheap, shit, shit, shit..." as he judges everything by price. He fancies himself a connoisseur of wine, but he wouldn't know a port from a pinot.
That's when I reminded him "I'm not even going to listen to your opinion on wine from someone who once returned a bottle of wine because it contained sulfites". What a dick.
Big super frown: A very close friend of mine from middle school who isn't an asshat lost his Mother last night. I'm not sure how she passed as I never ask, but I don't think it was at all expected. The funeral is being held on Monday, which will require a twelve hour round trip drive but it'll be worth it to be there for him.
Smile: Looking forward to having friends over tonight that aren't superficial.

I didn't know this. Is it rude (I'm sure it's extremely rude) of me to ask what happened?Luke wrote:Fingers. Left hand. None.
Feel free to ignore this and not answer me.
I have a couple friends like the one you mentioned, unfortunately. But fortunately, I haven't seen them in about 10 years. One guy joined the Army right out of HS. When he came back (this was 1998 or so) he started telling me stories of combat. I dont think he actually saw any combat. I could be wrong, but I really don't think he did. He kept telling me that he "loved being in the 'kill position'" and so on. Apparently, frmo his example of it, this "Kill Position" was basically being on your knees. I didn't get it.
Always had a story about how cool he was, how he could beat anyone in Street Fighter II, (never saw him join a tourney) he caught this 20 foot shark with 10lb test line on a $30 UglyStick, took down a 3 ton elephant with a .22, etc. My wife hated him, lol.
Frown: Still a little sick but getting better for sure... (so half frown, half smile)
Smile: My wife's company's "End of the Year Party" is tonite at a local BBQ place called the Salt Lick, and theyre buying. All you can eat. IM NOT EATING ALL DAY IN PREP.

A neighbor of mine like to pour cheapo wine into empty expensive wine bottles when he serves people he knows are snobby self-proclaimed connoisseurs. They never realize what he's done.Luke wrote:Did I mention the cork board? My wife collected tons of wine corks and created a framed cork board that I just adore. Good Lord Luke, the past three pages of this thread have been hilarious. I got a laugh, although it was at your expense. Good tale, but I'm sorry how elevated you and your wife's blood pressure must have been during that ordeal.
I had a friend that came back from Alaska, slept on my couch for about a week and a half, and RROD my 360 because he played it for 8 hours straight while I was at work for that week. The biggest was, my sweet and inviting parents unknowingly invited him to our house for 4th of July Weekend, while I was waving and screaming no in their periphery. He pulled some of the same shit, drank all our beer, ate all our food, and left without a simple thanks. You can pull that on me and I just won't invite you back, but do it to my parents and you've flown your true colors.
I think the other members here are already saying it, but cut those ties. Or better, register for the CLE, and fax him your scores when you do better on it.
Then cut the ties. Sorry you had to deal with that BS.

Just an FYI...
CLE is an acronym for "continuing legal education". Lawyers in most jurisdictions are required to sit through about 12 hours or CLE seminars each year to keep an active license. There are no grades...you simply sign in, show up, and - hopefully - pay attention.
That said, I have no idea why Luke's "friend" from Australia would be attending a CLE seminar in Greenville, North Carolina...

Haha, well in that case, it makes it easier to call him out on his nonsense. But Luke's too kind of a heart to do something like that. Oh well!

Not rude at all to ask. Doesn't mean you'll get an answer thoughindecks wrote:I didn't know this. Is it rude (I'm sure it's extremely rude) of me to ask what happened?Luke wrote:Fingers. Left hand. None.

Owning him in arm wrestling was great, I have to say it still makes me smile especially since he said something close to "No way you could ever beat me" and it wasn't even close with either arm.
That's just it. My belief is you should like what you like because you like it, not because of what it costs. And how do you know what you like unless you have an open mind?BoringSupreez wrote: A neighbor of mine like to pour cheapo wine into empty expensive wine bottles when he serves people he knows are snobby self-proclaimed connoisseurs. I knew this, but held back from calling him out. He probably said "I need to be on time for the CLE 'exam'" every single time I introduced him to someone, probably just to point out the fact he is/was a lawyer. He also talks about his "practice" which is nonexistent.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Just an FYI...

A co-worker's Uncle was his former employer, who said he was fired for "being lazy". But buddy still refers to the firm as "His law firm".
This is also the same guy who wrecked his BMW (purchased by his parents) while drunk, and then told me an elaborate story that his car was stolen. And to quote his terrible lie "I knew it had to be a nigger because he didn't steal any of my Dave Matthews cd's". One night he fessed up to me that he tried to race a Mustang while drunk and totaled his car.
I'm glad he's leaving the country.

What a classy broad.
Hopefully you're fine now that all is said and done.

Me too...I am just sorry hear that he is going to a nice country like Australia. Is there no way to re-route him somewhere else?Luke wrote: I'm glad he's leaving the country.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Yeah, it was a relief to see him leave. I just "spoke" with Hobie-wan and said that this may be the last straw, but at the same time I hate the idea of turning my back on someone who was once a great friend.Blu wrote:What a classy broad.Hopefully you're fine now that all is said and done.
But there it is..."once". Still, I don't like giving up on an old friend. If I can change, and you can change, we all can change.
