Your Favorite Console...in Terms of Hardware Only
Re: Your Favorite Console...in Terms of Hardware Only
My vote might be the Nintendo Gamecube. The design was compact and did what it did. I liked the handle on the console too. Then, you had four ports for one of the most comfortable controllers ever. Two expansion bays, one for a modem/broadband adapter and the other for the Game Boy Player.

Master System. Design wise, I love the way the system looks. Except for that stupid piece of clear plastic over the red strip that bubbles up, I just pulled that off. . .
Tech-wise, it delivers games that have the 8 bit vibe of the NES, but with bolder more vivid colors that fit the cartoony look of most games of that era.
The on system pause button is a bummer though.

Well, my favorite is the NeoGeo because it was balls out... uh, balls out. It just didn't care about it's size, and it even used that as a selling point, and back in the 90s it was the ultimate dream gaming system. I never got to own one until probably 1999, I think. Used a tax return to buy a Neo with two NeoCD pads, World Heroes and King of the Monsters for $160 off of a guy on Zophar.net's forums. That's practically unheard of now.
Other than that, I guess the SNES was my favorite. I didn't mind the color scheme and at the time it was A. more affordable than the Neo, and B. A SUPER version of the Nintendo! I remember I rented a SNES with UN Squadron and Mario World. I had it for the whole weekend and probably didn't shut it off once other than to swap carts.

It's hard to choose between the Dreamcast and Gamecube. Both have a nice form factor, and both have very comfortable controllers. The Gamecube does have a handle though... so I guess I'd have to go with that.

An awesome article about the development of that port. Pretty great stuff if you're into reading about that sort of thing.
I think the article kinda explains how porting a game can be a pain and is not so much lazyness how some people point.

I'm thinking Gamecube or Dreamcast both have an amazing library of games and the hardware was built very well and had great controllers.

Of course the Dreamcast and Gamecube take the top spots for me, and they need no explanation. So, I want to give a shout-out to the Master System. I just love the classy lines and sleek look the system had. If it had the same design, but with the length and width of the PC-Engine, it would probably be perfect.

Are you talking of model 1 or 2? I think model 1 SMS would look incredibly stupid if it was the size of a PC Enginelisalover1 wrote:I want to give a shout-out to the Master System. I've mentioned this before but a model 1 SMS has been featured in the cartoon "Regular Show" quite many times, atleast during the first two seasons
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I mean the Model 1; the model 2 looks like a horrible tacky mess.Menegrothx wrote:Are you talking of model 1 or 2?
